100k?? That's a great signing.
Can't hurt to have depth in the halves after Nicholls left and maybe he could teach Hunt and Milford a thing or 2 about modern halves play, goal kicking, general play kicking, game management and so on...

100k for a former NZ captain, that's a bargain. Excellent cover for halves when rep duty or injury inevitably occurs. Plus if it is his last season and he manages to crack the top 17 then our "fairytale eligibility" with the NRL goes up a few notches.

“If Benji did come, I would not consider him as a halfback and he does not want to play in that position,” Bennett said.

“His game is not suited to halfback. He can play centre and fullback besides five-eighth.”

That'd be interesting lol, Benji in the centres.

Ohhhhh, never thought of that!!!!

Must say, I've always been interested to see what he could have done at FB but that windows gone I think. Yeah, it's a no to the centres from me.

I don't know if he has the defence to play centres, but a third kicking option in attack would change the team dynamic, kind of like Jamie Lyon. On the bright side, it's a new talking point for BHQ!

I think it's a great idea get a former international for minimum wage got back up n big enough for utility role sign him up

Maybe if he spends Christmas at Thaiday's house he will put on enough weight to play lock. Probably wouldn't make us a better team but it would be funny as watching him work that hard for his $100k.

Still hoping we get our hands on a prop !!!!

Can someone please post the Courier Mail article?

[FONT=&amp][FONT=&amp]WAYNE Bennett has guaranteed Ben Hunt’s future at the Broncos in the wake of his shock decision to offer Benji Marshall an NRL lifeline.

Bennett is in discussions with Marshall about the prospect of the former Kiwi Test star joining the Broncos for a one-year swan song.
The revelations fuelled rumours Hunt could be squeezed out of Red Hill to link with ex-Broncos five-eighth Corey Norman at Parramatta.
In England preparing for the upcoming Four Nations tournament, Bennett has quashed speculation Hunt could be forced out of Brisbane.
“If Benji comes to the Broncos, and that is still an if, he will not be replacing Ben Hunt or Anthony Milford,” Bennett told The Courier-Mail.
“I am very happy with both those players and they are part of our long-term future.”

Bennett worked closely with Marshall during his tenure as an assistant coach in the New Zealand set-up.
He is an unabashed fan of 31-year-old’s freakish talent, but would not use him in the No. 7 jersey like the Dragons did during his turbulent three-season stint at St George-Illawarra.
“If Benji did come, I would not consider him as a halfback and he does not want to play in that position,” Bennett said.
“His game is not suited to halfback. He can play centre and fullback besides five-eighth.”

Bennett has carefully been adding to his 2017 roster with cut-price recruits.
He has snared experienced Titans winger David Mead and boosted his centre stocks with Townsville duo Moses Pangai and Tautau Moga.
Prop Mitchell Dodds is returning to the club and the premiership-winning Marshall will bring 255 games of NRL experience.
“In this case, you have to back the views of the coach,” said Broncos legend Darren Lockyer.
“Wayne has worked with Benji before in the New Zealand set-up during the World Cup. The coach has been around long enough to know what the team needs and doesn’t need.

“Benji’s experience could be an asset. With Milford and Hunt there, they are exciting talents but they don’t have the old head on them that Benji does.
“If he potentially comes into the squad, he would provide experience and that could help the squad.”
Marshall would bring valuable depth to Brisbane’s playmaking stocks if Milford makes his State of Origin debut next season alongside fullback Darius Boyd.

The guy has done his time. He served his sentence and is now back home. Whether you agree with the sentence or not is a different matter but he has done the time he was sentenced to.
Not disputing the judicial side of the matter, though the fact he's back here shows he's got off appallingly lightly.

That aside, my point is that he's damn well lucky he's not behind bars. He has no right to be back here playing footy, much less anywhere near our club.

To be fair, I think we tried pretty hard to sign a big forward, those Napa & James rumours don't just come out of nowhere, I'd say we just missed the boat. In some better news, we have a lot of contracts off our books next year, so next years off-season is going to be insane, we should have a LOT of off-contract players and a LOT of cap space.

Yeah next year is going to be crazy , could be a different looking team indeed. I still think we are a big prop short for this year .
