I was once a massive Benji fan, he lost me ages ago. At least he would be a utility player.

Smokin' Joe, @1910 fucking anybody.....Please tell me this is bullshit. I don't even want Marshall as depth. What a waste.

As long as there's no chance of Hunt leaving.

@pagey

The only scenario in which we're signing Marshall right here is if every available good forward has turned us down or is unavailable, you can believe that.

Would you rather sign Benji to a minimum contract on a 1 year deal with cap space that would be just sitting there not being used otherwise? I know what I'd rather, he'll provide good injury cover for the halves, and possibly through Origin if Milford gets the nod. And as I said before, it'll put pressure on Milford and Hunt to perform, they've had the halves positions monopolised for the last 12 months, that wasn't the case in 2015 when Taylor was incoming, and it won't be the case in 2017 if Benji can play some decent footy in QCUP.

I hear what you are saying , but didn't benji knock back a $300k offer from the saints ? Surely benji wouldn't take a low ball offer to be depth.

Benji is well below his beat these days but he's still got some tricks and a shed load of experience.

Our depth in the halves is thin. Lose one of Milf or Hunt and I reckon we're cactus.

Considering both of the advice, I'd say it's a great little pick up without making much of a dint in the coffers. Hopefully he helps both our halves develop and provides injury cover, should we need it.

Waste of what? The cap space wasn't going to be used anywhere else, and you can't really argue that it's going to be a waste of a top 25 roster spot, because he's presumably just taking the place of our previous back up Half, Darren Nicholls.

Where does it leave Kodi though?

I'm not against the idea of having an experienced half within the playing group at all, but I'm not sold on this by a long shot.

At the time he still had hope he could get back in form and force Dragons to make a better offer.

That didn't happen, and he doesn't want to leave the NRL, so now he has no choice but to accept a low ball offer if he wants to stay in the NRL.

It's either that, or go to England or retire.

It doesn't sound like he wants to go to England and it doesn't sound like he wants to retire.

I don't think Kodi has a future at the club, to be honest.

I think he will remain our utility until another club snaps him up.

I don't believe that for a second. Marshall thinks way too much of himself to take a deal at any club that wasn't going to play him in the 17.

I'd take Lolohea over Marshall at this point.

So you don't think Benchi makes it into the 1st grade side? Most likely at Kodi's expense?

Who wouldn't take Lolohea over Marshall rofl, you seem to be missing the point here mate, we can't get any of these other players that people are talking about, I'm not sure if you guys know how contracts work or whatever, but you can't just pick and choose the players you want in the off-season.

We obviously wanted players like Lolohea & Napa ahead of a retirement contract for Benji, but alas, we whiffed on the higher profile players, and are stuck with a depth halves signing, which is one of the biggest gaping holes in our roster. It's a good signing, no risk, low reward, anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.

“If Benji comes to the Broncos, and that is still an if, he will not be replacing Ben Hunt or Anthony Milford,” Bennett told The Courier Mail.
“I am very happy with both those players and they are part of our long-term future.”

That's a direct quote from Bennett, so that puts me at ease. Still, what the **** is the point of this? What sort of message does this send to someone like Nikorima who has proven to be a perfectly decent player yet can't get out of the 14

Wouldn't change a thing. The victory wouldn't sit right with me either. Guy should be doing time, end of.

The guy has done his time. He served his sentence and is now back home. Whether you agree with the sentence or not is a different matter but he has done the time he was sentenced to.

If the rumoured 100k is right then i have no problem with the signing ... in fact I think it is a good signing.

Should we get an injury in our halves then at this point we are screwed. IMO, we are very thing in the halves.

I also agree with Unbreakable that having an experienced NRL half breathing down the necks of Hunt and Milford is only going to be a good thing, as they knew there was no chance of them getting dropped regardless of how they played since we had no viable alternatives.

I still want to see Nikorima play of the bench in the 14 and Marshall in the ISC, ready to go if needed.

No thanks to Benji Marshall. It's like a Scott Prince type signing. I'm not at all convinced by Nikorima, but at least give him a shot if there's an injury. Gotta show the young players that we have faith in them. I agree that Hunt, Milford and McCullough seem to play a lot better under pressure, but then we shouldn't have let go of the talented backups in the first place.
