Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

I've never been less interested in watching a finals series for the past forty years.. wonder why that is? :)

I think the Broncs could easily bounce back to top 8 next season as the bar for that is already so low, top 4 and premiership threat is another thing.. That seems highly problematic for 2021 and potentially longer due to the woeful list planning, wonderful player option deals, and even better the loan deals where the Broncs loan players out so other clubs so the other club can take most of the upside playing benefit and let the Broncs keep most of the injury risk (Macca, Kahu.. maybe others).. real genius behind a lot of those deals, just not a genius with the Broncs best interests at heart.

Its not the craziest idea that's been posted on here and you are right that the Sharks would probably be interested in off loading him but my big concern around Moylan is his attitude. From all reports he had a poor attitude in his last year(s) at the Panthers and i've also heard he is a bit of a "take the easy option" guy at the Sharks.

I'm not sure we can cope with another bad attitude in the squad from a so called 'experience leader'. I'd rather have guys who will play busted and scrap for every loose ball with less talent than a guy who will willingly sit out another week of footy if he gets the note from his doctor.

He doesn't come across as a poor attitude guy to me personally. He's definitely laid back, no doubt about it. It may depend on the coaching situation as to whether we can get the best out of him. I think Green would be the better coach for Moylan, his game plan at the Cowboys really clicked with Coote. I think Moylan is a pretty similar player to Coote, good ball player with a decent kicking game, not the greatest runner of the footy, nor the highest work rate, but it worked very well.

I could probably name about 15 players I'd want at Fullback over Moylan, but I'm trying to think of realistic targets that A) have potential to improve the team and B) are probably available.

My first target would be Foran, second target would be Moylan. Both on 1-2 years deal, both on 'make good' money. Sub $400K.

Both players have had extremely bad luck with injuries but at top of their game are quality players that would be good for the club.
Moylan and Foran

This is beyond desperate

I've got a bit of a left field idea for a short-term Fullback option, if you guys would like to entertain the idea.. Matt Moylan.

Now, before you completely shit on the idea.. I'm well aware that he's made of glass and hasn't been healthy in years. He's also incredibly overpaid. This idea comes from a few viewpoints:

One, I assume the Sharks would be more than happy to pay at least 50% of his salary to get him off their books, so he'd be coming at a reasonable price.

Two, his contract expires after 2021, so he'd be coming on a 1-year rental to see how he goes.

Three, he's an experienced player that was a proven clutch performer before he was betrayed by his hamstrings.

Four, he's still one of the best ball players in the competition, and his short kicking game has actually taken some steps forward in recent years with his time spent at Five-Eighth.

Five, we've proven in the last 24 months that we know how to deal with chronic hamstring issues. Tevita Pangai Jr was hindered with them a couple of years ago, we sent him off to work with an expert physiotherapist to strengthen his hamstring and the supporting muscles / tendons, he hasn't had an issue since.

Six, his last healthy season was in 2018 with the Sharks, he was extremely good that year. He finished that season with 13 forced drop outs & 16 try assists playing almost exclusively at Five-Eighth, which I don't believe is his best position.

Seven, he just turned 29 - If we can solve, or at least improve his soft tissue dramas over the off-season, there is still some upside that we could get a few more high quality years out of him.

Eight, why not? It's not like there's any phenomenal off-contract players that are joining the club in 2021, we may as well use the cap space we have on a couple of flyers with short-term upside like Moylan, Foran, etc.
Moylan and Nikora / Ramien for Milford.

I actually find the Moylan idea pretty interesting, but I'm not sure if Green can be credited with bringing the best out of Coote. I could be wrong as it was a while back now but wasn't he one of the better fullbacks going round or at least a rising star when the Cowboys signed him for 2014-16. He was then out for 2014 with an ACL injury and then played well in 2015 before seemingly regressing pretty rapidly from then on until he was no longer even considered by an NRL club in 2018. I pinned it on Coote at the time but looking back he was in his mid 20s so surely it was in some part down to coaching. His 2017 season he had worse stats than Darius this year for perspective. Not saying Moylan doesn't have the potential to be a quality inclusion on small money, just that Green may not get the best from him.

On the face of it your rationale makes sense. However, the more I read it the louder the wee voice in my head got. It just kept shouting "sounds like Darbs out and Darbs MkII in". It would break me to watch the same scenario of a broken FB with dodgy hammies trying to reclaim some semblance of respectability while derping it up.

I know we don't have many other options, but I'd only be forced into this on a very last option and only if we were paying something like $250K for him.

i admit ive been impressed with how the Titans new owners have turned things aorund there....

Pretty sure ive said as much in the past...

Long term, its good for the league and for QLD football that they stay strong and viable...

Will big brother eat some humble pie and adopt some of their long term thinking..?

Doesn’t look like Luke has been signed for next year after all. Waiting for a new coach apparently. This is according to an article on Facebook.

That was reported days ago.

Thanks for the update. It was just confirmed by the club today, as you can tell by username of the account responsible for the tweet I posted.

I'm really hoping we play hardball with Jack Bird. I'd rather us keep him than chip in massive coin to ship him out while the player market is so stale.
Would you rather we keep him or Carrigan?

We need a old head as captain. Not a newborn and a newbie! Any suggestions......?
