Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

I think we are giving Blair a fairly high rap for something uncalled for with the 1%ers.

Sure it’s good to rush on the kicker but so does McGuire, Gillett and Glenn.

The offloading won’t be missed he was too up and down.
His tackling didn’t have good technic and he often gave away penalties because of this.
Also he’s so called aggressive play was mostly uncalled for and led to penalties and didn’t gain anything for the team.

The offloading will be missed*

He threw Hail Marys each time not good offloading like TPJ does.

He’ll be a massive loss, unfortunately it’s those things that aren’t obvious unless you’re looking for it, and it will likely end up with us just inexplicably appearing to be loose in the rucks and unable to prevent or halt our opposition’s momentum.

Blair....a massive loss? Puhlease....!!

That's waaay over stating it. Unless you're concerned that there will be no-one to throw wayward no-look offloads, no-one to find themself constantly out of position or no-one to do the brain snapper grub moves??

Adam who in 6 mnths....guaranteed.

Because we know where it all stems from.

You hated Bennett coming back from the start, for a reason that was legitimate, but in no way related to his ability to coach. You hated Boyd coming because you had heard from a guy that Bennett had a choice between Boyd and Player X, and he chose Boyd. You had to bite your tongue for the 2015 season because Bennett proved exactly why he is rated by some as the best coach in the game.

Since then you've found every reason to back your initial dislike for him being our coach. He let one of your pet players go, despite it being the best thing for that player, and despite it looking like we'd have the code's best halves pairing for the long term, you've constantly tried to rewrite history and claim it was a bad decision. It wasn't.

Another pet player, Kahu, played well at fullback for the start of 2015, but in his few games since there has been pretty shit. Sure, he may become good again if he had an off-season there, he's arguably more talented than Boyd, but he has absolutely no where near Boyd's ability in defence, in organisation, and in leadership. Boyd had a poor end to 2017 by his standards, sure, but he has also been battling injury for that time and he was also dealing with the imminent death of his defacto mother. Many players with his upbringing and relationship with someone like that would have trouble running out, and yet even in that state, with one leg, he toughed it out for 50-odd minutes of a prelim final against the most dominant team in the last 10 years, and still was able to marshall our troops well enough to hold out admirably. Shit fell to pieces when he went off.

Why people bag Bennett and Boyd for their relationship is beyond me. Saying it clouds Bennett's judgement is a load of shit because both Bennett and Boyd have proven time & again to be the ultimate professionals and have proven twice over they are capable of winning premierships. 5 seconds away from a 3rd time.

So that's why. Agendas, rewriting history to suit them, and trying to justify your opinion from 3 years ago by constantly chipping away at every opportunity.
Mate, you should know me better than that, and it's below you to use this place to paint me as another AP. I will answer you properly out of respect and longstanding mateship.

My opinion is based on this season's performances, not something that happened 3 years ago and can't be undone.

I praised Bennett for his decision to let Taylor go under the circumstances, even if I obviously didn't agree with it, because I understood he was stuck behind Hunt and Milford combining really well, and with little chance to break through in the near future.

I praised Boyd for his performances in 2016, and said he deserved the captaincy based on not only his performances on the field, as well as off it. I didn't think him capable of it, and he made me swallow my words. It may happen again, but I am sceptical of it.

My focus is not on past agendas, but on what I believe is best for the Broncos looking at their future.
If the result is something similar to what I believed 3 years ago, it's probably because we still need an organising half with a good kicking game, and could use the money bandied about Boyd's contract, whom has reverted back to his relatively average fullback game (excepting 2010 and 2016) imo.

If you want to discuss or debate this, please argue the above points, not what you think is my motivation.

P.S. I think Bennett and Boyd's relationship is admirable, I truly do. However, I fear it does cloud Wayne's judgement on team making decisions, not when all is well, but when all isn't, which is probably why people criticise them.

This is so, so accurate.
Oh look another amateur psychoanalyst. :lostit:

Argue the points on their merits, not on what you think is their motivation. If you're capable, that is...

If Wayne's relationship with Darius had clouded his judgement on team making decisions, Darius wouldn't be the last notable player left without a contract signed, he would've been the first player re-signed, instead he has more than likely sacrificed a fair bit of money to ensure we were able to keep our core group around long-term.

I think they're on the same wave length, both will do whatever is necessary to win another premiership before they retire.

Pretty much echoing exactly what I said last night -

THE decision to let Adam Blair secure a pay day before his contract with Brisbane expires is a no brainer.
The question Broncos decision makers had to ask themselves was ‘do we continue to invest in an ageing forward or do we secure the best promising forwards for the next 10 years?’
They chose the latter.
Blair made no secret of his desire to finish his career at the Broncos.
Instead, he’ll leave for the Warriors and collect the biggest pay day of his career.
Yes, bigger than the $2 million deal he signed with the Wests Tigers back in 2012.
Everyone’s a winner.
While it was the blessing of Wayne Bennett that opened the door for the Kiwi to explore the market despite having a year to run on his deal, in a unique way, Blair also has Jack Bird to thank.
It’s Bird’s arrival from Cronulla which will help soften the blow of Blair’s departure.
How?
It’s no secret Bird wants to see more ball. He’ll do just that next season with the club poised to play him at lock and move Josh McGuire back into the forward pack.
Let’s take a look at the Broncos’ pack for next season.
Korbin Sims, who welcomes a pay increase next year, starts with McGuire.
Tevita Pangai Junior, Joe Ofahengaue and Sam Thaiday are on the bench and all able to play in the middle.
While they’ve lost Herman Ese’ese and Jai Arrow, they welcome English backrower Andre Savelio to the club. He can play both edge and middle.
They’ve re-signed NYC skipper and lock Patrick Carrigan, beaten the Gold Coast to sign Cowboy Patrick Mago and promote 20s gun Thomas Flegler and Australian schoolboy Payne Haas to the top squad next season.
Take it as read, Matt Lodge will play for the Broncos in 2018.
His Redcliffe teammate Myles Taueli also joins him in the top squad.
While some people external to the organisation will question the release of Blair, nothing is done without thorough thought.
Bennett and his recruitment chief, Peter Nolan are too smart for that.
The release of Blair has been well planned. It’s also an incredible act of good will on the Broncos’ behalf.
Blair was contracted and viewed as a year-by-year prospect moving forward.
The Broncos have never been a club to splash cash on forwards. They also devalue middle men based on their age. Blair turns 32 next year, aside from his time in Melbourne, his best years have been at Red Hill.
Can he maintain this form at the Warriors? Only time will tell but the Broncos are happy to lean on the future rather than depend on old legs.
Consider this. North Queensland beat the Roosters with a starting front row of Scott Bolton and Shaun Fensom to cement their place in the grand final. It goes to show you don’t need a superstar pack to take down a team filled with superstars.
Many questioned how the club would replace Justin Hodges when he retired. Bargain buy Taufua Moga did an exceptional job.
The same happened when Corey Parker hung up the boots.
Like Melbourne, the Broncos are in a transitional period and the future is bright.
And other than the Storm, the Broncos have been the most winningest team for the past five seasons.
Many have questioned Bennett’s decisions before but time and time again, the Super coach continues to get the runs on the board.
Over to you, baby Broncos.

Flegler is the one, Nolan is so sure about him. I threw up his name a few weeks ago.

Did he play many games for us in the NYC this year?

Edit: Just checked, he played 6 games for us with averages of 7.5 runs & 80 running metres.

What makes him the one 1910 ? Have never seen him, is listed at 99kg 190cm so not a monster.

don't forget he is 18 ... most props aren't 110kg at 18.

besides, he doesn't need to be a monster to be successful

He was injured twice both in the first half of the year.

First year out of MM in a new city he did well to make the team.

He came from the Pride; they’re just excited by the forward prospects. I have only seen his games for Brisbane and he was finding his feet.

Sounds like coughing up a hairball @ Flegler.

Boyd hasn't re-signed yet. Better not be for anywhere near a million a season either.
If we offer boyd anywhere near $1 mil a season we are cooked. His body is deteriorating, pulled out of world cup now. Honestly still think he could be the player with the shock retirement, and that's why the Broncos played him against the storm, so he had one final game.

He has always been well paid because daddy always made sure of it, not to mention all the test and origin caps. If he has personal stuff going on, it would make sense for him to just call it quits.

Considering how he makes next to no tackle breaks, and his try assists were also very low this year, in a team that scored a lot of points, I definitely wouldn't be paying him much if he is continuing on. There are a lot of fullbacks i would rather have than boyd in general, let alone when you take into consideration the price of the player. SOmeone like Gutho would have been amazing. WOuld be on probably 1/3 the price, and my god was he good this year.

He'll coach until he is in his mid-60s at the Cowboys. He'll become the Wayne Bennett of the Cowboys. Mark my words.
That sounds all good and well but when he could earn in excess of double the money in brisbane, it makes me think you couldn't be more wrong. Unless he has an undying hate for brisbane, if we offered him $1 mil, he would take it.
