Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

I think Oates is a great player and wanted him to start in the 2nd row. He is a beast at running the ball and imagine how the halves would feel seeing him running at them with the pace he has. He would draw in a lot of defenders that can create room for Kahu on that wing.

For someone who wants us to have the biggest pack in the NRL, I'm not sure why you want to put a smaller body like Oates into the mix ... unless you are of the belief that players should be permitted to choose which positions they play.

While Corey Oates is big for a winger ... he isn't for a forward at only 105kg

I've been saying it for ages ... Oates has fucked himself by being such an awesome winger and finishing in ways many wingers can only dream about ...

Starting to go off Oates a bit these days, which isn't said easily as he's one of my favourite players in the squad.
Just the way he's handling the media and his persistence on what position he belongs in, call me old fashioned but I miss the days players would be so ecstatic to play for our club that they'd be the goddamn waterboy if it meant being in our colours.
I got an idea. Instead of reacting to every article that says something about Oates and his 'persistence' (insistence?) about his desired position you choose to only react to the times when you see and hear him speaking directly about the matter. You know, when you're certain he's said something himself, not a report or an alleged quote.

If Oates really does want to play second row though and has his heart set on it, as much as every single one of us would hate it, he really should go to Melbourne. That is the one place that will give him that shot in the second row, every other club will say yes and round 1 he’ll be on the wing again anyway.

You mean like he said yesterday to QRL Media?

Not going to claim to have read all the articles, but in the ones I have he only ever talks about it when asked. It's not like he's pissing and moaning to the media about how he is playing out of position. I'm talking actual quotes from him here.....not media dribble like "Unshed tears of frustration were evident in Corey's eyes at the mere mention of playing in the forwards"

Thanks for the idea there champ!

Yeah same. And the media love to bring it up. Every interview.

The big thing he needs to consider as well is whether a team will pay him premium money to come as basically an unknown prospect in the second row.

He may have to sacrifice some dollars in order to get a shot at second row only to then get pushed to a wing role should it not work out.

It's a big gamble to take

I disagree clubs have paid big money on non tested juniors that haven’t played a game in NRL. Oates may have only played a handful of 2nd row, but he has shown 2nd row traits that can be easily seen by a club when on the wing.

I wouldn't have a problem with Su'a shifting to lock. He hits hard.

8. Lodge
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Oates
12. Gillett
13. Su'a

The coach might have a problem with it though. If Oates is searching for a spot in the forwards, he will have to move elsewhere. Such is life. The world won't end if he leaves.

Problem for Oates is:
McGuire
Sua
Pangai
Haas
Fifita
Gillett
Glenn
Offfa
Sims
Carrigan
Flegler
Lodge
Fai
Mago
Savelio
Staggs
Tagataese

All want forward starting or bench spots. I say to him play on the wing and rotate through the forwards like Wendell did. Best of both worlds and pay him according to his performance which deserves decent money. Unfortunately we will have to lose some more good players due to opportunity like Wallace arrow ese ese hipgrave Collins and Whitbread. We need to decide who we keep and who we let go. We will be outbid on players for sure. We have great youngsters but some will leave and look like bad decisions because of the opportunities they will get at other clubs. We can't get around that with the cap. We may have to keep a fai on base money instead of matching big offer for flegler or Carrigan for example.

Not so sure about that. Realistically, clubs will pay him big money regardless. At absolute, worst you get a top shelf winger. A very undervalued position these days.

Or even a very good centre. He'd dominate there too I reckon. His combination of size, speed and agility is rare, he'd be a success in any of wing, centre, second-row or fullback.

So no room for TPJ, Bird (if he performs well in the pre-season in the play making lock role Wayne wanted him to play before the true extent of the Sharks' incompetence was revealed. Bennett isn't going to pay part of his wage for another club, so abandon the notion of flicking him), Offa, or even Fifita/ Carrigan to push for a starting spot? Not starting TPJ next year is insane. Su'a at lock is a square peg in round hole solution to fit in a guy who probably won't even be as good as him in the position.

EDIT: I understand losing him on the wing is a huge loss, but if he's digging his heels in it's better for the club to look elsewhere.
