So we're chasing a Halfback who is so shit that he couldn't crack the team in 15 rounds behind guys like Keiran Foran, Jeremy Marshall-King, Matt Frawley & Fa'amanu Brown?

Sounds good.
I’d take him purely for the name. We could have someone with the skills of William Zillman after three knee recos crossed with Lachlan Maranta playing at 5/8 but if his last name was Lockyer I’d sign him for life.

What about the other 9 spots? Also, how do you release Glenn, Kahu, Lodge, Bird, Savelio, Nikorima and Opacic who are all contracted if the dont want to go?

I don't think salary caps, contract payouts or even a full squad are big priorities with this COACH.

Obviously I didn't spend the time to think about all the squad signings. Nikorima, kahu, bird, glenn, lodge and opacic would have clubs lined up with deals to match or better than the current contracts they have with broncos. Just clearing out some dead wood and creating a war chest of sorts to be ready for future signings and ability to retain talent. Knights did this and it's worked well for them with being able to sign players like ponga and pearce.

Lachlan Lewis would be a decent 7 to complement Milford. He runs and tackles hard, has a kicking game, and his name has big ties to the club.

Segeyaro and martin are cheap buys with experience and huge potential.

Nikorima will ask for too much eventually, I'd say 500k+. He will need to be released.

I'd sign cory deniss mainly for his size. 193cms and over 100kgs. Him and oates would be great at making our kick returns. Knights have plenty of depth in their backs so he'd come cheap. Shibasaki obviously would fight for that spot too.

Isaako to fullback is obvious.

Oates and boyd as a left edge combo would be slick and solid in defence.

Lachlan Lewis, Lachlan Maranta? Thats a bit of a stretch.

No way on earth would Segeyaro come cheap.

The big problem i think you would have with your strategy is we would end up paying parts of salary of players we choose not to keep. You also havent legislated for them not wanting to leave.

I'd play most of them in second grade if they didn't leave.

Ivan Cleary has kept players like nofoaluma, mcqueen and lolohea out of the top 17 most of the year and it's only created healthy competition and motivation for the players.

Someone like Mahe Fonua can come out of nowhere and be the best centre on the field every week while getting paid peanuts.

How do you know he is getting paid peanuts?

We also arent going to drop the likes of Kahu, Glenn, Lodge, Bird and even Nikorima if they are fit just to try to force them out.

The Tigers are coming 10th.. Ivan Cleary isn't doing a good job despite what the media will attempt to make people think.

Didn't have as much as broncos do to work with.

Lodge is one of our best and is only getting better and wants to stay. Opacic has rejected th storm on several occasions to stay. Bird still needs to be given a chance. Kahu and Glenn are good clubman and the only reason I would let him go if he got a rich deal because we have so many coming through. Definitely want a new halfback but nikorima deserves to stay if he wants t

I really don think get why you would want to get rid of some our most loyal, hardest working and budget effective players that we have. While bird still deserves a chance

We have a good backline, we have a x-factor half and a youthful but dynamic pack finally! Just need a little more from our spine and someone to pull the strings (and nikorima doing what he does bets from the bench) that's it we will have a top team

Oates in the media today saying he’s a backrower playing on the wing. We will lose one of Sua or Oates ;/

I want Oates on the wing, not backrow. If he's attempting to hold a gun to club's head Norman/ Hoffman style to play a certain position then cya later.

We have better prospects in the second row, not to mention Gillett for a few more years.

We were getting tipped to miss the 8 this year by most “experts” this year due to our supposed poor roster. And if cleary has such a poor roster why is he leaving players with the talent of lolohea and nofoluma in reserve grade?

I dont doubt he has done a good job with the rabble he was left with and I do think he is a good rebuilding and developmemt coach but I dont think he could even tie wayne bennetts shoe laces for sheer coaching level. He hasnt even won a premiership yet and hes been a coach for 10+ years...

Just on the pre season poor roster that we have every year. I laugh every year at how the goal posts change to justify the media saying we are in crisis or bennett has lost his aura. Just like last year, before the season starts we wont make the 8, then we look like we will and its a failure because we dont make the 4, then if we do (like last year), its a failure because we dont make the gf. Even in 2015, we make the gf and it was a failure becuse we didnt win it. I get as broncos fans we have high expectations, but te media blatantly re-set their predictions to suit their agendas, and somehow people have such short memories and that little independent thought that they just follow what they say. The exact same roster that was so terrible we dont make the 8 at the start of the year comes 3rd last year, and its somehow a sign of a coach losing his touch. Same with recruitment. One minute they will rave on about the talent we have, how we have the best young forwards in the game and we get all the best juniors, then next article is about how we have failed at it. Arent these juniors part of recruitment or are they contracted to other clubs and just loaned to us out of pity by other clubs due to our recruitment being so bad. Why does every club want our players? The fact these in demand players are part of our clubs at any stage doesnt make anyone think “were they recruited at one stage?” Or does everyone just expect us to hold onto every single player no matter the cost for their entire career...

Starting to go off Oates a bit these days, which isn't said easily as he's one of my favourite players in the squad.
Just the way he's handling the media and his persistence on what position he belongs in, call me old fashioned but I miss the days players would be so ecstatic to play for our club that they'd be the goddamn waterboy if it meant being in our colours.

Nah. I think he earns the right to push his dreams by delivering on the field week in week out. If he played like a sook because he didn’t get his way I would understand people going off him. But instead he performs as one of our best every week. Let him dream I say. But I would be super disappointed if we did lose him.

I think Oates is a great player and wanted him to start in the 2nd row. He is a beast at running the ball and imagine how the halves would feel seeing him running at them with the pace he has. He would draw in a lot of defenders that can create room for Kahu on that wing.

A pack of:

13. McGuire
12. Oates
11. S’ua
10. TPJ
9. McCullough
8. Lodge.

Wouldn’t be the worst thing on earth...
