The scary thing is that DCE would probably walk in and be our captain.
More than likely.Pie in the sky stuff with DCE.
This rumour does mostly make sense though (even though it would be completely made up).
Bird leaving would free up enough Money to get him and the Broncs wouldn’t be stupid enough to take on DCE’s whole contract, Manly would have to subsidise or DCE would have to take a pay cut. He may be willing to do that to play in a premiership ready side like the Broncs are with him in it.
The only part of the rumour that wouldn’t happen and shows it is entirely made up is that Brisbane would not be stupid enough or willing to let Bird go back to the Sharks.
The Broncs would be idiots to have done all that work and then let Bird go back AND pay part of his salary. No club in the world would be stupid enough to do that. The Sharks deserve nothing out of this Bird mess.
No I have a thing called a career that prevents me watching every nsw cup game I’m afraid. Broncs employ these people called talent scouts that are meant to do this for a living. While all other clubs do too Broncs have far more cash, systems of development and prestige then most other clubs supposedly. Agree u can’t sign them all but FFS one or two that go on isn’t too much to ask especially when everyone is going on about how no halves in the game anymore and have a bunch of NRL ‘halves’ in Broncs jerseys confused who should be wearing the 6 jersey. I’m not talking about just the last couple years either. Aside from Locky (who despite being a junior half still took a year or two to be manufactured into a controlling 5/8) who was the last genuine high level half we developed and retained? was it Alf and Kevvie?
The problem with DCE's contract isn't just monetary but also the length- no one else wants to commit for that long. He's still got 6 years to go on his deal.
When Manly signed him to an eight year deal they made it close to impossible to ever release him.
Unless he is chasing success ahead of $$$ and walks away releasing Manly from their obligations.
Which would be alright if we were talking 100k or 200k but who walks away from 6 million? To take up a two year deal.
We'd obviously have to offer considerably more than a 2 year deal to tempt him. I'd say at least 4 years / $1m a season.
On the DCE topic, Mole has now also picked up the rumour and says him to the Broncos is a big chance if we can find a new home for Bird.
Broncos didn't develop Alf or Kevvie either!
So The Mole is now repeating the exact same rumour that Slothfield made up in the same segment that he revealed he had no contacts at The Broncos anymore. That is pathetic even for Tony.
Depends on what you class as development. I'd say they improved as players at the Broncos so it's fair to say we played a part in their development as footballers. Everything doesn't have to come from the club you start your career at.

Improved sure but they were both Origin players with 50 first grade games and Kevvie a premiership winner with two grand finals- that's a pretty handy starting point!
It'd be like buying Cleary now.
