Roosters pulled out the big guns trying to poach Dearden, dinner with Johns and Politis. Obviously quite the prospect.

To be fair, the Roosters try to sign every young half in the competition and then spit them all out when they don’t set the world on fire after two games.

I don't think our spine is set in stone at all , two rookie halves aren't going to get us to where we want to be. I think sos can play 6 or 7 has got all the skills for a well rounded half.
I think we will have to bring in at least one more half be it depth or more , we've let go of dargan and Tboyd .

pre season next season will be very instructive; ill assume Boyd and Macca still here, Dearden and Bird fit.......Turps etc..

I can come up with about 6 different halves partners out of that lot for us next year (excluding Macca of course..)

Expect the club to try every one of them during the pre season...

It all comes down to judgement with the halves, I see a calmness in Dearden which is pretty rare for one so young and inexperienced.

Teams negotiating with other teams players a year before their contract is up is the real problem here. That should be 100% against the rules, if you want to test the market you can fucking wait until your contract is up. We have fafita for another year with cap coming off the books when his contract is up. The fact we are scrambling right now because teams can talk to him with another year to go if fucking rubbish.

In fairness though, Siebold needed to lock up those players this year or they wont be around next year all together. Fifita still has another year to run on his deal. I have no doubt they have turned their attention to him now to get an upgrade to keep him long term.

The whole media Fifita angle is being played exactly like Lodge, Payne, Turpin and TPJ. They have a good game and that same week their million dollar players and the Broncos can't afford them. Once they resign you never hear about them again. I think you will find that the Broncos will be talking with these blokes about being on the right money for both parties. You can be sure big Broncos supporting businessmen are on the horn to the manager as we speak after the media talk. He could be on over a million if he stays with us. What I would like to know is who manages all these blokes. Because if its the same guy this could all be leaked from them to get the TPAs rolling in. You never know.

The Broncos cap being brought up so often could also be a rallying cry from the club. If you want this team to be the best get behind the players so they stay. Its what Melbourne and the Rorters do.

Locky never said that we can't keep the ones we want he said we can't keep them all. So he is saying some will have to be allowed to move on. He clearly stated it's about making sure you can keep the likes of staggs and Fifita.

To me the salary cap issues could be remaining cap with upgrades pencilled in for Fifita already.

I very much doubt the Broncos were stupid enough to think Fifi would only look at a marginal increase when his contract expired.

They probably realised early on that they need about $600-700k when his contract expires and may have already factored that in.

The ones not yet factored in would be guys like Flegler and maybe Staggs.... but I think Staggs probably demands about $400k on the open market being a center and all.

Flegler is maybe on a development contract at the moment so he could push up into that Fensom/Tagatese bracket for a 2yr extension. I doubt he goes from $75k to $500k straight up.

I think clearing Boyd, Macca and Bird by end of next year would clear up enough cap to retain most. Also Milf maintains his current salary, at best, which should be sufficient given he's not a rep regular, etc.

Exactly this! For anyone believing the idiots like Hooper and his wanker mates these are the same guys that were adamant that Lodge & TPJ would no stay with us and would sign with the Eels & Rabits/Roosters respectively.

I definitely think our balance is wrong. We have go with rookies like Dearden or Paix or whatever in the halves when they are still years away in terms of development.
