Kia??? **** me, how the mighty have fallen

we couldn’t get Lambo or Ferrari
Wouldn't be surprised if this is the largest sponsorship deal in NRL history though tbh. Kia have the cash to splash and have been long term sponsors of the Australian Open.

I imagine past players will be people like Darren Lockyer, probably something about the changing of the club or something from always being NRMA to now having a multinational sponsor.

I mean, we could get lucky and the reason the conference has both past and present players there is because at the start of it Boyd/Gillett are present players, and by the end of it they are past ones? :p

Now that's some big brained thinking

Is there any update on the Croft rumour? I am guessing that we may be a little tight for cash.
However if he is coming, I hope he is here for day 1 of pre-season.
One thing is for sure with or without Croft, this spine is going to need a hell of a lot of time together to gel prior to rd1.

Expect the news tomorrow that Gilletts done which sucks

You know this or just speculating? Although I have loved watching him play the past 10 or so years if he can retire on medical grounds it would free up a lot of cap space for next year. Means Fifita could be locked up long term!!

Does it suck though?

Don't get me wrong and I do understand your point but he is on a big salary, which frees up necessary funds.

Even excluding that, he is a shadow of his former self and he mentioned repeatedly during his neck recovery how scared he was about it. Johns never really recovered from a broken neck and neither did, importantly, Tallis. Given Tallis and Gillett play basically the same position, that is telling. Retirement is probably the best thing for him and the club.

Speaking of which: how insanely tough was this bastard? Emphasis on insane.

At least he knows his time is up (assuming he does retire). He could probably fight to make the team and cost us big time if he stuck around. Take notes Boyd.

The Broncos are bracing for the possibility of Origin star Matt Gillett retiring, with the Maroons hitman in danger of being forced to walk away from the NRL. The Courier-Mail can reveal Gillett is fighting to feature in the NRL next season as he battles to overcome a series of injuries.
Note: there is not one "reveal" in this article. It is pure speculation based on what we already knew.

He would be the 2nd champion one club player we have lost to serious injury before his time this decade after Jharal. I cannot fucking believe how rotten our luck is at times.

Yeah it still sucks. It's shit that the best thing for a long term dedicated clubman and gun player in his day is to call it quits in this manner. He deserved to go out on top of his game with a premiership ring after smashing the blues one more time, not as a footnote to our worst season in a bloody long time after spending most of the previous year on the sidelines.

If Gillett retires will it be a medical retirement and free up cap space, or will we have to carry his contract on our cap for the next few years ...

question two, why is the NRL effectively making it so players can only retire after a contract has expire (otherwise the hurt their clubs, by having to carry their salary on the cap until the end of the contract)
