Manly discard Lloyd Perrett thrown NRL lifeline
19 minutes ago
Former Manly prop Lloyd Perrett is trialling with the Broncos for a contract for next season.

After spending much of this year in NSW Cup, the 24-year-old Perrett played for the Sea Eagles in the final series.

And the tough prop showed enough in the big end-of-season games to be thrown a lifeline by the Broncos, who are short on experience up front.

The younger brother of former Roosters star Sam Perrett, Lloyd has been a member of the Queensland Emerging State of Origin team in recent years.

It was there that he met Broncos coach Anthony Seibold, the Broncos' assistant coach and the pair formed a close bond.

Perrett will be a handy player for the Broncos in State of Origin time next season, when half the pack or more will be playing for their states.

...Interesting, though a trial doesnt necessarliy mean too much right now...

Massive breaking news from the Mole, I pointed him out in a Broncos training picture 3 weeks ago

People are changing their profile pic and name and making joke posts about signings. One of them made their profile look like the Tigers and announced they had signed Latrell and ESPN Australia retweeted him, so now everyone is doing it.
No way this could be faked. It says South Sydney Rabbitohs right there.

Says he's still unsigned, but I thought so too
I'm not sure who, but someone on here said he was definitely already re-signed earlier this year.

Give the guy some slack, it takes time to read every team’s forums for his made up scoops and legit ones take even more time.
He's really only a 'mole' in the sense that he only pops his head up out of the ground and sticks his neck out once he knows the coast is clear to make a call, and he dissappears back underground again any time anyone calls him out on being wrong.

The REAL scoop would be for him to tell the truth that he has no sources other than fellow keyboard warriors.

There is an apparent South Sydney twitter handle now saying Boyds signed with Souths for 2 years..!:happy::happy:

One of those dickheads was Sonic Star (Paul Booth), one of the tossers who used to be a mod at RLeague. He's just being a fuckwit on Twitter. As one does on Twitter.

Brisbane Broncos need NRL veteran Boyd: Justin Hodges
Former Brisbane captain Justin Hodges has dismissed calls for Darius Boyd to step down as skipper and retire, saying the NRL veteran still has something to offer in the centres on or the wing.

Hodges admitted Boyd, 32, was not at his best in 2019 and may benefit from sharing the Broncos captaincy with recently re-signed back-rower Alex Glenn in 2020.

But Hodges said a young Broncos outfit desperately needed the former Test fullback's experience next season in the wake of veteran back-rower Matt Gillett's retirement.

"I know everyone is asking for him to be demoted as captain and retire but you still need that older head, you still need that experience - that's what he brings," Hodges said on Wednesday.

"He is the sort of guy you still need around the club. He has won premierships, he's done everything in the game.

Brisbane Broncos veteran Darius Boyd

"Whether you put Alex Glenn as co-captain with him that's another avenue for them to explore.

"But if you take Darius Boyd out of it there are not too many other older blokes there.

"Hopefully he stays and everyone gets behind him. He deserves to go out the right way, on his terms."

Boyd battled in his 14th season in 2019, looking ineffective at fullback before being switched to five-eighth.

Critics called for Boyd to walk away from the game, saying he was risking tarnishing his legacy after his failed halves experiment.

The knives were out for Boyd when he failed to provide direction for a Broncos outfit that ultimately suffered an embarrassing NRL finals exit, a record 58-0 loss to Parramatta.

The Cowboys deny their public pursuit of Latrell Mitchell was just a ploy to get Valentine Holmes to commit to his new 6-year, $6-million mega deal.
But Hodges believed Boyd could reignite his form going back to where it all began 13 years ago - on the wing or in the centres.

Boyd started on the Broncos wing in his debut 2006 season, juggling the centre position before stamping himself as one of the game's premier fullbacks.

"Obviously he didn't have the best year but you can't put him down for one bad year - he's had 13 other good seasons," Hodges said.

"Moving from fullback to five-eighth disrupted him a little bit as well.

More on 7NEWS.com.au:

"For him I think he should got back to the centres or even the wing.

"He's played a lot of wing for Queensland. He's the second highest try scorer (in State of Origin) besides GI (Greg Inglis).

"I think he's valuable in that position and with good ball he can come off and play in that fullback role where he can link up.

"But (next year) he just needs to come in relaxed and just play rugby league."

Oh, Hodgo, stop it.

The Hodgo story deserves it's own thread.

Wish they could ask Parker his opinion on this, he is most unhappy about the captain playing on not only a year but 2 years too long.

Seibs just signing every one he knows and who's a fringe?

Not sure about the credibility of this journo, but he is reporting in the SMH that now that Mitchell might be disappearing off the Tigers radar, Milford is one of their top targets.

Yeh Benji wants somebody signed that's slower than him at training.

It was mentioned before they pulled the pin on latrell. Benji is a milf fan so he might be behind it.
