Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Well that scenario involves seriously weakening our centre position and as far as I know Jack Bird has not been training as a lock this preseason and has never started in the pack against fully grown men.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather Bird and Staggs in the centres, but it seems clear Boyd will be somewhere in the team and if that’s the case, the only place I see that working is centre.

That leaves an odd man out. I think Bird could easily fill the lock role and play a similar style to a Cam Murray rather than a JT2. He literally has all the attributes, just needs to stay fit and healthy.

Yeah and that's my worry. It's alright to use him as a lock but with so little back up we are putting a lot of eggs (and let's face it eggs comes to mind when I think of his fragility) in a small basket. I much rather we back Oates to transition to second row as a back up. Do both and it expands our now limited options of pretty much jamil hopoate.

I thought Bird hurt his knee in an awkward tackle. That could happen to anyone.

Perhaps but his luck with injuries (and their potential long term consequences) should be taken into account when planning for depth.
Regardless of how you get them, you never know exactly how well a player comes back from a major one, and a knee can end careers or at least inhibit them.

Settle down princess, no need to be so aggressive.

Its a depth signing where we didnt need a depth signing. We have enough backup, its better players for our first 17 is where we are short.

Kahu wont miss much footy, and Staggs will be good to go as well. Kennar, Arthars, Perese, Farnworth, Boyd, Kahu and Coates are basically competing currently for 1 spot on the wing. We didnt need another back.

I’m not unsettled.

Out of all those guys listed Staggs is the only one I want to rely on. Arthars I am happy to see what he has and want to see more of Coates and Farnsworth. Perese has not looked good in first grade and the others I wouldn’t have near the team if it was my choice.

With regards to Bird, and depending if Staggs is fit or not, I'd start the year off with him on the bench. He's played hardly any games in the past two years, and is coming back from a knee reconstruction. At full fitness he will have a place in the team, but I'd give him time to get his feet back, and confidence in his knee. I'd start with Staggs and Boyd in the centers. Give it a few rounds and bring him back in the side once we've played a few games. There will likely be an injury or something else at some stage.

Yep, you absolutely need to settle down. Its only a game.

You might not like the other options, but there is probably a fairly good reason a bloke almost 27 years old has only mustered 9 games since he made his debut in 2014. He hasnt had any major injuries either.

Righto Darbs.

Where is the official news on this Gagan signing? NRL.com still say he is unsigned from the Rabbits.

Melbourne are seriously short on backs if they lose JAC.

Any chance they could be looking at some of our backs.
Particularly Kahu who is on 400k, could add some needed experience to their roster and likely won't play first grade for us.
Gagan could make a genuinely decent depth replacement for him?

Gagan also adds another player who has likely bought into the Seibs culture before and could be good for squad dynamics.

Melbourne isn't in the business of helping the Broncs.

The biggest concern isn't so much Gagan flopping, but if our roster had a free space it really should have gone to a forward as we have 2 forwards outside the 17 to bring in and 7 backs (8 with Gagan).
Aren't Timm and Perrett hovering around as well?

Timm is signed to Redcliffe, it's just a train and trial deal with us at this stage I believe.

Perrett is just a train and trial deal as well as far as I'm aware. No idea if he has a Queensland Cup contract anywhere yet.

Signed with Wynnum he is their star signing next to maranata
