I just think he is the perfect bench hybrid forward/back. He has been pretty promising in the second row so far too.
Sure, but at 400-500k that's quite a bit of dough for a 'bench hybrid forward/back' who isn't exactly killing it at either position currently.

To put it in context, Tino only cost the Titans who outbid everyone else 600k and he's an up and coming gun who will likely start for them every single week.

i find it so ammusing that the perennial cripples of this competition seem intent on taking the problem children of other similar cubs off their hands..

Green to Brisbane
Bird to Canterbury

Why arent the Bulldogs investing in their youth? Why arent they using that money into turbocharging their development pathways and scouting?

Im becoming more and more convinced the scrapping of under 20s and reserve grade football was utterly stupid decision. Ive seen AFL state league players from SA come into the AFL this year and look...like AFL players. Says a lot about the standards at the state level for mine..

I know we dont have any football outside of NRL currently...

The NRL "should" have something similar...right now it seems the only option for struggling clubs is to throw idiotic money at other clubs rejects or those with significant injury historys on a "roll the dice and hope" scenario...?

Its a shell game...it really is....someone like Birds gunna look back on a career where hes played for 10 clubs, never really developed as a player and earned heaps of dough from the sideline injured...yet is still a "wanted"commodity for the next Titans, Bulldogs club...

Rant over....

The Bulldogs were actually pretty comfortably Minor Premiers in the State League last year too. There seems to be a huge disconnect between that and transitioning to the NRL successfully though.

yet the AFL state leagues seemingly have no such issues....

I thnk it comes down to the resources allocated to the development pathways, not just for players but for coaching.

I mean we have all seen it this year ourselves havent we; often its either sink or swim with the young brigade we have brought in this year; they are mostly not good enough.

I beleive its the solution the struggling clubs need though....current recruitment trends see them swapping players mainly with other struggling clubs or getting those who are considered surplus to the good teams

On paper, the terms the Titans are throwing at Fifita make sense; trying to avoid the above.

i mean, its arguable that the Titans are now ahead of us in terms of off-field administration and player retention and recruitment.

Esse'sse in to replace Arrow is a fine move, not sure of the contract details at this stage but if he has come in with a contract less than what Arrow got then it a even better move.

Their posturing concerning Fifita is at least showing the league that they mean business. It may not work but the message its sending could bring its own benefits..

It looks like they have a achievable 5 year plan in motion to me.......what have we got?

They let arrow go to be replaced by esse and used arrows $800k to sign tino, want Fifita for $1.25 and have ash on a mil. Sprinkle in some boyd , Cartwright and peachy and some how it's better than our recruitment/ retention??

The 2018 coach of the year and the 2013 rookie of the year. We have the past

See Harry Grant- Two years in ISC, Hooker of the year last year, third and second in Petero Medal, Falcons player of the year 2019.

Fogarty has been underrated as a Queensland Cup 'graduate' this year too, even if he is a late bloomer relative to Grant. Every game he plays at this level he seems to grow in confidence and look more comfortable and polished.

What message is it sending? We are prepared to play players almost double their worth and are not above begging?

Cody Walker another late bloomer QCUP-god.

I don't think scrapping the U20's has had that much of an impact tbh. It's strengthened the QCUP and NSWCUP competitions by injecting a bunch of young talent (which in turn has pushed out a lot of the late 20's plodders and strengthened the competition).

The only downside I can see in terms of development is that in U20's players usually got to play their best position every week - In QCUP/NSWCUP the coaches tend to lean towards more experience in the key positions and throw the rookies in the outside backs or on the bench.

you are applying the wrong lense i think; thats what HAS occured, im referring to the here and now, and what is being planned looking forward...

Have the Titans made mistakes in the past, absolutely...i will not argue that

But seeds are being planted currently; dont be suprised in a year or 2 if things continue we have a long hard look at Holbrock...if not sooner...

Standards are being set, there is a culture being cultivated and developed; young guys are being integrated into the team AND being backed as long as they perform. If they dont, they are out

Milf, Boyd, Oates, Croft....have you seen them being held accountable...this year...at all..?

I stand by what i said; 1 of the 2 clubs are on the up, prepared to accept the hits and setbacks it takes to improve, to make the hard decisions to rebuild a culture.....and one club isnt

Love this kid......can we get him for the next decade...?

Harry Grant just confirmed he'll be heading back to the Storm in 2021 regardless of whether CS9 plays on or not. So you can put a line through him.

Thats a bit of poetic license from the article writer. Grants quote is

" It has always been Wests Tigers in 2020 and back to Melbourne in 2021, so that is how it will be at this stage. That is the way it has been with the loan deal and it is just the way it is going to go."

He doesn't mention Smith or his playing future. I doubt he is going to openly come out and put pressure on Smith of the Storm by saying he will ask for a release if Cam plays on next year. HE has just basically reiterating the terms of his loan agreement.
