Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

The thing is we all blame the club for not being able to retain some of these blokes. I have no doubt the club is trying to retain someone like Staggs but at the end of the day if he doesn’t want to stick around, there isn’t a whole lot the club can do. Until big changes happen I’d be surprised if we don’t see more players wanting to leave.
Also of note is that it’s no one who we want to actually leave ie Milford or Offa, but the blokes that are having a dig wanting out..

Yeh but mate stop and think for a minute who would pay those two what they are currently on for the crap they are 'producing'? Why would they want to even think of leaving. Eh good ship Broncos is a well paid holiday for them both at present.

We're going to end up in a dogs situation with a bunch of overpaid nuffies running out in the coming years.

Of course they don’t. They get to be overpaid, turn up and be mediocre at best and still live at home (Ipswich)

Most of our overpaid nuffies finish up next year... the cheque book is open for 2022 onwards

the thing is due to the current position we find ourselves, it is easier for the likes of Badel, Rothfield and co to make people "want" to believe their stories and "rumours" about players wanting out.

We could legit have a few million come 2022 lol. No one will want to re-sign + no one wants to come to the club. We will have Boyd’s, birds and Milfords money. Probably still have the money that we put aside for Fifi also.
We are in quite the pickle.

So players will leave and relocate for money, but not stay for money....

Looking like that’s what the club is turning into. I mean I’m sure milford will be more then happy to re-sign on a mill, and the club will probably see that as a big win.

I have been highlighting exactly this.....start signing up the guys you want here long term, then in 2022 go to the market and basically blow everyone else out of the water with unmatchable bids for 2-3 absolute key world class signings to round out the roster we started rebuilding from now...

And for mine; you start this process with Haas, and about 6 seconds after he signs, you get Dearden in and do the same...

That's just a ridiculous approach though... Is Staggs part of our future... would any coach that comes in not want Staggs?

It's the same scenario with Dearden then... we won't start negotiations until after a new coach is appointed and he'll be a free agent by then.

Is Nolan on gardening leave, because what is his job if he's not looking to sort out the roster for 21 and 22.

By my reckoning we've got the below off contract at the end of next year... are we going to hang around and wait until they're all free agents before we make a move on re-signing?
- Kotoni Staggs
- Thomas Flegler
- Xavier Coates
- Thomas Dearden
- Ethan Bullemore
- Fanitesi Niu
- Jordan Riki
- Jesse Arthars

They should be in the negotiating room with Dearden right now.

He's our halfback now and he becomes a free agent in 3 months time... It's reasonable to assume that he won't want a long term contract right now, because he's about to become a starting halfback in the NRL and could bump his price up, but I think at worst you say how about a 12 month extension with a bump in his pay (we can afford it for 2022) and then start talking the big money next year without the white noise from NSWRL.

That doesn't lock him into anything long term and undervalued (or even overvalued), but it gives him some security to focus on his game in 2021 and then the recruitment team start working on a 3-4 year extension beyond that, because they get to see him play first grade and make sure he's worth the investment.

Yep.. I was just looking to exclude those that are probably moving on (Glenn - retiring, Bird - Shitney, Milf - whoever will take him) and the guys that are pure depth (Kennedy, Palasia, etc.)

Was focussing more on the guys that the club keep telling us are the future and looking to highlight how much of those guys will be free agents in 3 months time... we thought Fifita was bad and yet I just highlighted 8 future Inglis, Cronks, Webkes, etc. that are coming off contract.

It was also in response to a post that we would wait until a new coach is appointed before looking to re-sign players, but to me there can be no way that the retention team aren't in the negotiating room trying to lock some of these guys down.

tell you what...Penrith are approaching Melbourne like efficiency.....and almost all of their players are home grown.

And, if you ask me, if there is another side who can emulate that kind of roster construction...its the Broncos..

The Gus Gould 5 6 7 8 9 10 year plan worked wonders. I guess we need to keep Seibold for another 8. :baghead:
