Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

The only signing better than him would be DCE imo.

They both have speed, something you can't teach but something that is oh so critical to halves these days. Not even blinding pace, but just good to great acceleration off the mark to open up half a gap.

I mean that's not the reason why those guys are great players, but it definitely helps them. Case in point: Warriors never make the GF a few years back without Johnson running across field and turning Cronk inside out with sheer pace. I know it's only one moment in an entire match/year, but quite simply the only reason why that try happened was because someone had the speed to put players in two minds, good players too - Cronk ain't a neville.

100% agree with the luring of SJ, the kid is a freak. Surely Kearney could get in his ear and convince him. Do it bru

Hodkinson is unsigned for next year. He did pretty good at Manly and the only reason he left was because the Dogs offered him big money (after initially chasing Mortimer but missing out IIRC) and they knew they had DCE waiting in the wings. Definitely a level down from Folau, DCE, SJ, Barba etc, but I'm putting it on the table.

I think I might have suggested him last year, but he's really just a tiny step up from Wallace IMO. Williams would probably be about the same price, but he's far more talented.

Hodkinson is almost as solid as Wallace in defence, something that we really need. Sam Williams hasn't looked very safe to me, although I haven't seen a huge amount of him.

we need to get away from the idea that a halfback has to be a rock in defence.

halfback is and always has been an attacking position. our halfback is the worst attacking half in the game.

Yeah, I agree. Halves are the one position where defence almost doesn't matter as long as their attack makes up for it.

Agreed.

Evidence: Wallace is a great defender for a half, he plays half, and we suck because of it.

He doesn't make up for it with his attack though. He doesn't seem to have any organisational skills, or even that much creativity.

Name a half that has poor defence but their attack justifies their standing as a decent half? The only one that comes to mind is Marshall.

sandow and marshall are really the only two in the NRL to "get away with it" and well they play for the two worst teams in the comp so what does that tell you.

the game has changed. it doesnt seem to be an issue anymore as most of hte new breed of players learnt to tackle from a young age, although size could still be seen as a problem (shouldnt be for a half imo)

Meninga if surrounded by a team of support coaches where he is responsible for motivation and attracting talent, then hell yes!

Meninga as coach without the support, hell no!

I guess you’re right, Mal with Kevvie Walters alongside him would probably work.

Mal + 2-3 assistant coaches covering the technical things like running plays and defense patterns, etc, would be awesome, I think he could lure plenty of players to play for us as well, great passion for the game.
