Scott is easily the best prop in the game and whilst he's better than Hannant and McGuire, those two guys are still pretty damn good. With Thaiday now playing in the front row and Hala a great prospect it's perfectly understandable that we didn't chase a player in an area where we are already quite strong.

We just don't need Scott. As much as I would love to have signed him if we had the need for a prop. Our forward pack is pretty good IMO. We just need to fix our backline up and get a quality half. I could live with Wallace in the halves if he was partnered with someone good.

I agree, but if that is the strategy when the equivalent of the thurston/cronk/dce becomes available in 2 or 3 years time the club has to be willing to compete and pay the money rather than walk away because 2 other clubs offer more and Gee/Griffin are above a bidding war. We seem to be caught in no mans land where we don't want the solid first grader because they are really not much better than what we have but seem reluctant to throw out the big contract.

I'd love to know how much cap flexibility we really have, hard to see we would be at capacity, I mean other than Hodges do we have any player who would be top 5 in their position?

I agree with this, we have a history of buying quality which has added the x factor to lead us to winning premierships.

We bought Lazarus and Gilmeister which played a part in us winning in 92-93. We targetted Tallis& that assisted in getting us wins in 97 & 98. So I am for holding off & buying quality when it becomes available rather than blowing our wad on maybes and wannabes.

We did that when we decided to back Norman and Hunt when Lockyer retired. That ended well.

We backed Norman, just in the wrong position for 3/4 of the season. Did we really back Hunt though....

No offence, but I think you're stuck in the past if you think a club can compete for the premiership each year these days. Rightly or wrongly, under the salary cap (unless you cheat), it's all about peaks and troughs, not consistant years. You need to build up to a premierhsip. Imo the broncos did this in 2011, but fell just short.

These days you could be happy with just making the 8 every year, which I'm the broncos could do by signing slight above average players, or you could wait and hold out those funds for that premeirship winning player to come to the club in a year or two, and actually have a chance at winning the top prize.

Sometimes a short term pain is worth a long term gain. To me a club like Souths epitomises this.

Digby Ioane to the Broncos in 2014, Quade Cooper also in talks with them... I heard about it over the weekend at my sons footy just wasn't sure about mentioning it considering the crap some people cop about sources.

Why do I believe something I hear at an Under 6s game? Because his team is part of the REDS junior system so most of the people I get to chat with while watching the game are part of that system.

Well if they both come it would be good but Ioane on his own would need to take a pay cut. Apparently he is on $800k in Union.

Ioane would do well with 3rd party sponsorships so that would help.

Centre pairing of Ioane/Hodges would be dangerous with Cooper feeding them the ball.

Quade Cooper is woeful under pressure.

The rumours about him and Brisbane I'm pretty sure stem back to when he had a massive sook about Robbie Deans and whinged and moaned about his national contract and Reds contract and almost completely ruined both International and Domestic career.

Are there any cap concessions for grabbing a union player?

Also, if anything were to come of it, which I doubt will happen, how much of an affect does Mundine have on the deadshit?

Mundine does play a big part, I follow Mundine on instagram and he has been posting HEAPS of Bronco related pics lately. Scott Anderson, Macca, Hannant, Copley and Maranta have all posted pics with Mundine as well.

The Layla chick from Big Brother has also posted a few Bronco things and she is Coopers latest love fascination.
