Broncos recruitment & players missed

Sooo....the players you mentioned as being "dirty dirty cheats", were they charged by the NRL for accepting monies over the cap

or is that just your.....

you know,

innuendo type stuff?

Whatever Fourex. Your right, I'm wrong and this isn't the thread for it. The storm bought the game into disrepute and I think it is ridiculous to think those players have no idea, but you disagree and that's awesome

Didn't you know that it is common practice to sign multiple contracts with different figures.

No I wasn't aware of that, I'm glad I have been set straight now though

FMD some here like to drink the cool aid. Milford was signed at 12 doesn't explain the next 7 years when we had a couple of chances at him

Same as ....so and so was nothing in the Qcup. So and so couldn't crack it in Fogs ....ISC....whatever!!

Someone saw something enough in these players to take a punt on them. Being a talent scout IMO isn't about judging the bleeding obvious....it's about looking through the rough exterior and being able to pick the potential

Yeah.....it's a bit of crystal ball stuff. Not easy to do.

But ....some seem to be able to do it a hell of a lot better than us.

Hopefully Pinky can do it for us now Cyril is gone. Pick us some gems

How do you know we didn't have a go at him, but he wanted to remain loyal to the Raiders for developing him? From all reports, we have been interested
In him for a few years.

From reports I've read he did want to come but we have discussed all that in another thread. The point of the post was S soon as 1910 posts something you open your mouth and swallow what he puts in it

So there is something wrong with taken on board information from someone that obviously has some kind of connection with the club and has basically a 100% strike rate with information he provides?

In regards to our approaches to Milford that has been pretty common knowledge, not just from 1910

- Munster has never had anything to do with the Broncos, he played one ISC game in 2012 and then last year had his great year (Rookie of the year) where both the Dogs, Broncos and Storm offered him a contract. He took the Storm.

- Milford was signed by the Raiders at 12.
- Mbye- was in the Titans development squads.
- McQueen played for Wynnum not Easts and played three years for them before going down and playing for the Bears where he then got a crack with Souths. A lot of the time at Wynnum he was playing FOGS and couldn't even crack ISC.
- Papali- Souths are linked to the Raiders, that's there deal and he was signed young again like Milford.

- Slater fell into the Storms' lap, he went to Reddy first and they said we are good for halves and they sent him up the road to Norths they gave him a run in Colts and he scored 4 tries.

- Cronk was languishing in Qld Cup and Bellamy didn't rate him until Orford left and he thought he might be able to use him, he came down and did his second pre-season after being sent back to Norths after his first with them and impressed this time.

- DCE was offered to everyone, his dad was a scout for the Cows and couldn't get him a run there. He was again playing ISC and Manly offered him around as trade because they thought Hodgkinson was the answer, he left and they then used him. He was playing for the Sunny Coast in the ISC the year before he made his debut- Manly didn't use him at all and sent him up here every week.

- Jono coudln't get a run anywhere, Dogs took him on a deal that nearly meant Jono was paying them. Dogs even let him go to the Cows because they had Anasta.

In regards to Munster, he came down to the broncos well before his ISC and rookie year. Problem was when he came to a training session hook didn't give him the time of day. He may have never actually been on an official contract, but here is a kid who was in the heartland of broncos territory ( rockhampton) and was clearly over sighted fro some reason. No wonder he didn't sign with them last year.

Mbye may have ended up in the titans developmnent system, but not before his services were offered to the broncos.

DCE played 20's for manly and they sent to the ISC to gain more valuable experience in a tougher competition, and from memory he was the best player by a country mile.

talanoa, you seem to have an axe to grind with the current administration, yet almost every single example you gave stems from the previous administration under Cullen's leadership.

As far as I know, the current one has been proactive in getting one of the best talent scouts in the business (Pinky), launched the Logan Academy, and has tried and partially succeeded to get some of the best to the club in Barba, Milford, Kennedy, DCE and Smith.

Again, the succession plan has nothing to do with the current administration, yet they are the ones copping it, because I guess people expect miracle fixes...

Although the above has had a trickle down effect, our biggest issues by far are coaching related. No superstar is going to make a difference to this team, when it defends like they did in Dunedin!

Now one player I'm disappointed we missed is Tomkins. How good would it be to have him playing 5-8 this year for us?

We're the richest club in the game, yet we didn't show interest because of his release fee being too high.

barba is better imo.

the question is can the team structure and go-forward allow barba to shine. probably not. we'll all blame barba for being quiet when he hasn't got the players around him to create space. starting with macca who's service is worse than vodaphone

It's not about better or worse, Barba would be fullback and Tomkin's 5\8 who regardless of what some think is miles ahead of any half option we've had at the club in years not including Lockyer of course.

Here's hoping we can have a massive turn around and Kahu can be a major success at 5\8 but I can't say I'm confident.

Yuck... Glad he's not here.
Seriously dislike the little prick, and to paraphrase someone, I can't wait until he's a stain on a prop's jersey!

Why do you dislike him?

So would Hooks if he had the big three.

My biggest gripe about recruitment is the non replacement of Lockyer, we had 2 - 3 years when we knew he was gonig and the time since.

Lockyer papered over the deficiencies of Hooks coaching which led to an extension, he has a lot of good qualities as a coach but football strategies isn't one of them. Hook retains players which fit his coaching style which he obviously fully believes in but his style is **** without a superstar.

The club has two choices, remove the coach and start again or get him the superstar or 2 he needs.

Neother of those things are happening.

Option 1 is good

Honestly I don't think option 2 will cut it - I still think in the end Hook would be found wanting

There is a 3rd option though - give Hook a tactical assistant to create game plans that work (a Neil Henry type perhaps?)
