Mitch is on an alleged $250k a season (according to zerotackle) which isn't huge money in this day and age but if Manly take his whole contract that's an extra $500k over 2 years.

We probably shouldn't be letting props walk before the origin period but that kind of money would go along way to building on our team next season, the year bennet said was our best shot at the trophy. With Vidot so far being our only big name that looks to be leaving next season (only freeing up an alleged 80k) the chance to give us some extra cap room is too much to turn down.

If it is Garbutt I think it's the right decision for the club.

Plus we wont be paying the Barba money anymore

I would not say Garbutt been anything like Kennedy he just hasn't had the chances.

Hopefully he get's a decent crack with Manly then. He's good for an offload and not a bad runner either.

His offloads have been poor for us, often ending with errors. I'd assume it's much harder to get a clean one away in the NRL, with defenders better at wrapping up the ball, or spoiling if he does get an arm free.

I never got the memo as to why I should dislike Manly. I know everybody hates them but I don't. I definitely enjoyed watching the Broncos beat them at home last year. But it's also because I hope Garbutt gets a good chance somewhere.
The only team I actively dislike atm is the bulldogs and that's pretty much down to Hasler and Reynolds alone.

I don't disagree. However, even though he is older he is still inexperienced and many of our inexperienced players make mistakes (even some of the more experienced ones).

You shouldn't need a memo to hate Manly, it should be innate and primal. They're a rugby league version of some awful Tony Abbott/Ivan Milat hybrid and sicken good-hearted folk everywhere. Some even say their very existence is an affront to God himself.

If Garbutt can find a new NRL club before June 30 he will be allowed to leave but if not he could sign for a Super League club at season’s end.

its a shame that garbutt didnt eventuate into what i'd hoped for when we signed him, but no dramas letting him go. we have far more important re-signings to make.

i wonder if he fits into their 17 immediately? aside from their injuries, i'd say luke burgess, jake trbojevic, willie mason, and josh starling are all definitely ahead of him.

Well Garbutt has certainly been a bit disappointing with limited opportunity this year, I reckon Wayne has taken the chance to free up the dollars for the next couple of years and build the squad his way.

It wouldn't also surprise me if Garbutt was signed on reasonable coin, especially considering the $800k Barba debacle.
