Isaako hasn’t done anything clutch since that roosters try which was 2 years ago now?
3 maybe? Dunno, but he is cod ordinary. He had a rough trot no doubt, but that doesn’t account for years of crap, no passing or ball-playing game to speak of, no great defensive ability, no support game and not much more than someone who can run the ball, a bit.

He strikes me as Hoffman mark 2. A service-able winger when he can hold the ball and that’s about it.

I hope he proves me wrong. But he has had years to do that now and hasn’t done it yet. If he is fullback, we’ll be getting bombed out of games this year for sure.

That's ridiculous. I get isaako has his faults and he had a shocking year last year, I'm also not his biggest fan. However, he has won games with clutch plays for us on multiple occasions and is a gun goalkìcker. The hype around Allan is crazy on here sometimes. He put in a shocker in origin yet it wasn't his fault, he has the highlights real of Lachlan maranta and his defensive efforts ar ee poor. I'm not saying he's a bad player at all, just that he isn't that far past average/solid-ish first graders, and if you're paying 500,000 for him you are desperate for a fullback, full stop
We are desperate for a fullback, because our first choice is Isaako and next up is Niu, lmao.

Completely disagree with Allan having a shocker in his Origin debut. I thought he was really good and showed more in that game than Isaako ever has at fullback.

When did 500k become crazy money for a competent spine player?

I guess it's because we pay that kind of money for players who haven't proved themselves.

I just don't think he's good value for us with walsh coming through , maybe it would've been different with macca gone already.

I think it's way too early to call him a competent spine player. Mitchell got injured around round 15 or 16 last year I think. So Allan would have played maybe 7 or 8 games as the starting fullback. To give him a 500k contract based off of that would have been a serious gamble.
Now it might have turned out to be a bargain, time will tell, but this club has gambled big and mostly lost big on contracts over the least number of years. So I for one was happy to see them hold their fire on this one.

but the knee-jerk reaction to sign a largely unproven entity from the Rabbitohs to a big money long term deal worked out so well for us last time!

I'd politely suggest that $400-500k would be easily in the bottom percentage of Fullback contracts across the entire NRL at almost every other club except ours.

Tedesco, Turbo, RTS and Ponga are all on million dollar plus deals. The Cowboys also have Holmes who was recruited to play Fullback collecting a million dollar deal too.

Gutherson, Mbye, Mitchell and Drinkwater are all on well in excess of the $400-500k mark already, most of them are on just under the million dollar mark. We just finished paying Darius Boyd in this ball park too.

Papenhuyzen, Dufty, CNK, Brimson, and Edwards are all on around or slightly above the $500k mark but are going to command really substantial upgrades in their next deal and not one of them could be purchased for even close to this amount today. Charlie Staines was fielding offers over $500k and he's played 2 NRL games.

So in the bottom three contract wise you have Isaako, Corey Allan and Will Kennedy (technically Dugan is collecting their Fullback money at around $900k a season mind you).

So essentially, even at $400-500k Corey Allan is probably the second cheapest Fullback in the entire NRL and the only one who is probably getting paid less and is actually worth less is the one we currently have in Isaako.

People saying $400-500k for him are frankly delusional and simply miles out of touch with what it costs for a reasonably proven NRL Fullback these days.

Or they just don't believe he is reasonably proven.

given the level of discussion here about our fullback, its clear to me the first ruleof NRL is; know who your spine is for the season.

Dont think anyone within the club knows for sure either.

If we are to climb the table this season, this becomes a absolute must.

Otherwsie, face facts; this will be another struggle of a year until we DO nail our spine and let them dvelop together....

Which is an argument I could accept if either of our current options were even a third as proven in the role as Allan.
But why pay $500k for an unproven guy when you can have 2 unproven guys for no extra cost?

lol don’t just like my post, I actually have no idea.

You quoted and replied to yourself, but I'm guessing you're referring to me... in which case I am referring to the one and only Seibold... thought your comment was sarcastic

I believe he is referring to the rotund gentleman that has a penchant for destroying football clubs and collecting timber cutlery.
