Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

I disagree. IIRC there was an article last year where current players were asked if they were to leave their current club, where would they like to play footy. Broncos were still up top with the Roosters and the Storm, with daylight to the rest. All we need to do is start being competitive again. The rest will fall into place. We have the best facilities in the game and the best home ground. Who wouldn't love running out to Suncorp with 30k+ every other week?
Was that before or after we won the spoon. But I genuinely hope you’re right. Time will tell.

If that is the case, at least they are trying to do what they should be. That is an extremely low offer to Capewell but I also doubt they would have gone that low. Now we apparently have money from not getting Smith, hopefully we target a couple of guys who might switch early, maybe we can re-visit the Capewell situation.

If we offload Oates and Glenn thats $700k (though I guess Glenn on min wage isn’t a bad deal at all). You’d happily replace them with Capewell on $450k

You certainly would! Whatever happened to the money set aside for Fifita anyway? We should have a lot of money next year from the Bird disgrace, the Boyd retirement and finally getting a few others off our books. Surely we can afford to retain the majority of our kids AND bring in a marquee or two with depth / solid first graders.

I'd rather start low and go up than start high and get burnt under the Paul White school of contract negotiation...

We're paying Matt Lodge 7-800k for two years with another two in his option. Nothing against retaining Lodge per se, but given he's widely spoken of as leader of the pack, and our forwards have been abominable, aimless and disorganised, is he really who we want to have locked in at such a high salary?

You've nailed it. I don't mind it if this is what the Broncs have done. I still hope we get him.

No he isn't but you need to have someone willing to take him on for more than 200k a year and that will be difficult unless he improves out of sight under the new rules which I am not holding my breath on.

Why would Kurt go from a potential premiership winning team to the Broncos for less money? If that report is to be believed then we'd better be making up for it with lap dances at Love and Rockets...

Depends on who the Panthers have coming through and how much they will offer to keep him. As good as he is, he wouldn't be a priority for them. He has to be gettable.

Of course not, we are well overpaying if 7-800k is true and reading between the lines shortly after Kevvie started he was looking to move Lodge on with a small contribution but no club was silly enough to bite. Lodge is just one we look to be stuck with so we can only hope he contributes positively to the team until it's time to re-negotiate.

The one plus with Lodge is he genuinely seems to give a shit about the Broncos and his place here.

Hopefully the first low offer is to check his and managers interest. If he comes back with "i wouldn't play for them for 1 million dollars a year" we can move on and have lost nothing as well as keeping our cap position under wraps. If the message comes back along the lines of "not at that price" we can take it from there and keep some sort of power in the negotiations.

You don't go into the car dealership offering sticker price + as the start of negotiations...

As per Kevvie yesterday, we still have 2 spots to fill in our 30. Now that C.Smith is officially not coming here I can’t see why we can’t go a little harder in getting Capewell here by August 1. I’d say the other would be Walter jnr?
May as well use that $ left in the cap for this year..

I'm still quietly confident Smith will change his mind. He loves the Broncos.

Panthers seem to have a never-ending stream of talent coming through, it's time for our recruitment team to really step up and start earning their money. Time to start raiding up and coming talent from other clubs, the way they do to us.
We really need a hulking young centre as i still see Herbie as a winger but maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Coates will transition into that hulking centre in the next year or so. Corey Oates i think is cooked and i think for the clubs and his sake he has to go and maybe reinvent himself elsewhere.
I cac see Reece being a quality fullback in the Papenhausen mould with time under his bel but unfortunately that can't be rushed..
According to Kevie we still have 2 spots to fill , so if we could fluke a couple of quality signings our stocks will rise...Hopefully.

The two signings, would you go with:

Capewell and Lee?

I'd love to get Capewell and Mann to be honest.

He's the starting Backrower in a Premiership favourite. Firstly, why would he want to come here for similar money and secondly, why would Penrith want to hand him over before August 1 this year?
