Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

I think any interest in signing Ash Taylor would only exist based on what the situation with Milford looked like being as we move towards the middle of the year.

I'm obviously very reluctant for us to get into bed with Milford again given how poor a value for money investment he's been during his last contract, but if he was to somehow turn a corner under Kevvie by the halfway point of this year and he and his Manager were willing to discuss a deal that wasn't too long and was a fair reflection of what he contributes to the team currently, then I could see a reasonable argument for re-signing him and praying like hell that Kevvie can continue to keep him away from McDonalds and have him turning up to football games more than just occasionally.

I'm thinking something like a 2 year deal with an option in our favour for a third year at around 750K would probably not be too hard to cop? You could even load it up with incentives if you had to make it a three year deal that were contingent on some KPI's that he had to achieve.

I think if he was genuinely unwilling to look at a deal like this or wanted to take a better offer elsewhere, then the likes of Ash Taylor at around 600K for the same sort of length deal probably doesn't sound like a bad piece of business either. We could use the change to significantly upgrade our Dummy Half and Fullback options and suddenly we'd have a far more balanced looking spine and roster overall.

Here’s an idea, what about going for Taylor on 500k? I know it will likely be unpopular but think about it. He has a kicking game which we have been lacking for a long time now.

Let’s say we lose Dearden, a Croft-Taylor or Milf-Taylor on heavily reduced contracts combo is actually better for the here and now than anything with Dearden in it anyway unless he comes on in leaps and bounds in one season.
I'd offer Taylor more than that! Taylor would be such an upgrade on Milford, Dearden and Croft. Wish he was here in Brisbane.

Thought he took up a renewed contract for lesser value late last season? In any case he would need to get fit, he just doesnt look in shape for the speed of the game now. Before he even looked sluggish.

Do think so , has mentioned he would .
Doubt he would though if he gets offered more elsewhere.

Taylor might not be able to handle the spotlight of being a Broncos half tho. I think at Titans he can somewhat fly under the radar because everybody is so used to them being shit.

We be interesting to see how he handles the pressure if they have a good year and the expectation keeps rising.

not to mention that everyone's eyes will be on their latest million dollar a season toy

I'd imagine people will be looking much more closely at him this season with all the high profile recruiting they've done.

At this stage I would be looking into these blokes as a half option

- Shaun Johnson (Off contract)
Depends on how much $ he wants and how he returns from injury. Sharks have Moylan and Trindall as replacements.

- Kodi Nikorima (Has a PO for 2022)
Warriors will have the cap space and a need to retain him with RTS leaving. He was a level above Milf when he left and still is. Needs improvement in long kicking.

- Kurt Mann (Off contract)
If he wants to play 5/8 he will be the odd man out with Pearce and Clifford on the books for 2022. He will likely move to centre later this year anyway when Green returns.
My only concern is that i haven't seen a long kicking game from him as Pearce dominates 99% of the kicking at Newcastle.

- Scott Drinkwater (Off contract)
He will have a tough time holding down the 1 with Hammer and Holmes hot on his heals, but it's possible. A move into the halves could be possible with Clifford leaving at seasons end, but I think Todd doesn't see him or Morgan as a 7.

Pending how they go this year I would also consider:

- Croft partnering Dearden is an option if they improve this year. Alot of people have written Croft off, but I believe he has more to offer. This would also be the cheapest option.

- It would take a HUGE improvement to consider re-signing Milf. It would be on a massively reduced contract and only 1 or 2 years max in length. He just isn't reliable enough.

I didn't consider Hunt, Pearce, Moses, Munster, Hughes, Whighton, Luai, Cleary, Keary etc because they either just signed a new contract or are no chance of leaving their current club.

I don't really like Ash Taylor. He is far to erratic and inconsistent for me. He can produce some great footy at times, but he has alot of errors in his game too. I don't think he would handle the pressure of coming back to Brisbane in the role we would need him to play. It's a no from me.

Adam Reynolds?

Adam Reynolds?
Hmm possibly... 3 or so years ago I would have said definitely. He would bring a wealth of experience and a great kicking game. But he is getting a bit old and slow and doesn't bring much else in attack. I would sound out his management to see how much he was wanting for 2 years. He wouldn't be high on my list though.

How this for a prediction. I think we will keep Milf, Croft and Dearden on fair contracts - and they will be far better than previous years. Croft will take the reins with Milf for this season and we wait patiently for Dearden to get some more game time. Dearden desperately needs more ISC game time to be ready to lead the team in NRL level. Far from red alert nuclear button time.

It's at least one contract too late. He's hugely injury prone already and as he ages you'd expect that to only get worse.

Coupled with the fact that he has almost certainly already played his best football and would be likely to decline further over the length of his next deal, it's a pretty solid pass from me.

Didn’t someone debunk this injury prone myth and he played like 90% of games the past 2 years?

To recruit and retain good players we need to be successful.
To be successful we need good players. Chicken and the egg.
We need to start winning and keep winning to get that ball rolling and as soon as possible.

I disagree. IIRC there was an article last year where current players were asked if they were to leave their current club, where would they like to play footy. Broncos were still up top with the Roosters and the Storm, with daylight to the rest. All we need to do is start being competitive again. The rest will fall into place. We have the best facilities in the game and the best home ground. Who wouldn't love running out to Suncorp with 30k+ every other week?

We will rise again and everyone knows it. The thing is, it's only we fans who hope it happens tomorrow! The rest want us flailing away in last. We're already on our way back, people just don't know it! They will.

I think most fans can see steps in the right direction to be honest, even those of the more negative types like me.

- Kevvie and his band of merry assistants
- The old boys back on board
- Accountability in the team picked / dropped
- Donuts coming on board in May
- Moves being made to tie up the kids but not being held to ransom anymore
- Re-installing the ISC as a recognised pathway for the likes of Walsh, Dearden, even Oates
- Bringing in some experience but also good charactered experience
- An idea in attack (based on the trial)

There is still a lot to work on and it won't happen over night but the club looks to have steadied the thoroughly burned boat and now look to be putting in the framework to build it back up again. It may take up to five years to get back to the top but this entirely depends on recruitment and retention for next year and beyond. We are at a key moment in Broncos' history right now, what they do next will be pivotal in what the next decade and beyond looks like.

I am an optimistic person but I don't see us being the top team or gf winner any time soon, not even in 5 years but I do see us becoming a force again, a legitimate chance come finals time. I can see us regaining credibility and truthfully that would be enough for me. I really want to see the Broncos respected and feared onfield. I've had a gut full of gleeful Sydney centric media types taking free kicks at our ballsack.
