Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

For me it depends entirely on what he wants. I think he's an awesome player but if he's chasing north of 700k, he can get fucked.
Fair enough... 😂

To me, we have a shit roster overall. We need some quality signings, hence my long support of Capewell, Smith and Drinkwater...

I like the Karmichael arrangement. He might not even play for us. Hopefully he doesn’t, because what sort of NRL team are we, that we are forced to be picking blokes that walked away from the game and haven’t played it in 12 years, instead of the people that we CHOSE to be in our roster?

BUT, I think he can help. He knows how to play fullback in the NRL, Origin and for the Kangaroos. He has undeniable professionalism as a football player. He has some star power and plenty of experience.

Worst case scenario we sign him on a train and trial deal and nothing more about him is heard... Middle of the road, he provides good experience to some of our rookies and helps bring other stars to our club. Best case scenario, he plays for us and kills it...

How are any of these things bad for us?

Smith is staying at the Storm next year to finish out his contract, so he's not coming. Storm will only release him with a player swap, and I wouldn't give them a thing.

Smith has shown he can't go close to being an 80 minute hooker, if he could I'd happily offer him 900k, but really, he's at his best as a 40 minute impact player, a really good one mind you, which to me is a 600k player. 25 minutes to spell Turpin, rest of the game at lock, anywhere really, he's a winner. I'd be all for the signings if it's at a good price.

Capewell I like. I'm not sold on giving up on Isaako, I think he has the raw talent to be a top 5 fullback, but he needs some serious 1 on 1 coaching to get some footy IQ into him. It's not impossible to learn. Look at the impact Slater has had on Paps, you can just see his play style changed significantly. Isaako's fitness is clearly better than it was in the early rounds, and I think he'll only get better. His mistakes aren't fundamental things that you can't knock out of a player, and something about him strikes me as a guy who is coachable.

I know its probably impossible because “roosters” but maybe walker saw last night and thought to himself hmmmmmm I could do my thing behind that pack. I really hope the broncos are thinking about having a crack at getting him.

You never know. I'm sure the Walkers have a far better relationship with and opinion of Kevvie as opposed to Seitimid.

Sam Walker really has no allegience to us to be frank, born overseas, grew up in Sydney i believe....plus our sub-standard hanlding of retaining him.....that ship has sailed boys im afraid...

Besides, after last night, i dont think we actually need Capewell.

Most of the money he would want has gone to Piakura.

Was he the difference last night? Did anyone actually think "geez, if Capewell is on OUR edge, we definately win this game".....

I didnt, im actually ok we us saying "thanx but no thanx Penrith, he can continue to be your salary cap problem if you dont need/want him"

Use the same money to invest in our spine. That was the difference last night...

I'd still want him ...

he won't break the bank and a backrow of:

11. Capewell
12. TPJ
13. Asiata

could be very dangerous for us. and we'd still have money to invest in our spine IMO

Capewell just got cheaper for us. He can replace Glenn, thats if we havnt already set that money on fire.

1910 said his price isn't the $450 k that's been reported, so he may break the bank which is obviously why the talks broke down in the off season.

Why wouldn't you want Capewell? Even if Riki and Piakura somehow came on faster than most backrowers not named Fifita, he is still a bloke who can play lock or centre and we need cover/depth at both. Regardless, we need an experienced replacement for Glenn who is actually good, Capewell is your man.

All comes down to dollars really , and what positions Kevvie wants to strengthen.
Pangai might be a mainstay in the backrow.

Yep he might be and in fact hopefully is but Piakura is raw and really, so is Riki. Who knows, with his speed, maybe Riki might even be a smokey for centre. Regardless, if he is cheap enough, Capewell would be a wonderful addition.
