Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

He's very young.. His game will develop and I think he'll eventually become one of the best defensive centres in the game. He's a top tier centre, no doubt. In a couple years time he will be unstoppable. I don't think a club would be idiotic to sign him at all. A club like Eels would view him as the perfect replacement for Michael Jennings.

If we want to keep Staggs then all we have to do is see where we are over paying players. I would gladly release Milford and sign a replacement 6 for half the price and use the spare cash to upgrade Staggs and keep him at the club. It's not that difficult.
Staggs is useless to us until '22, and even then might take a while to get going as per traditional ACL recovery times (not for recovery of surgery, but to return to 100%). We shouldn't be throwing huge cash at him otherwise we will end up in the same situation as we are now, overpaying players that don't deserve it.

Offer him decent money but take it or leave it.

Why do we have this attitude with Staggs when so many people here have been defending Jack Bird for years?

Don't have time to explain but just think about it. Staggs is worth keeping.
No I really don't understand what you mean.

Staggs is coming off a rookie contract and does deserve an upgrade, but doesn't deserve superstar money, and he's useless to us until '22.

Bird signed a 4 year contract, didn't ask for more money, and left...?

I really don't understand the comparison at all. Maybe I'm being dense? Please explain.

Jack Bird was never worth any of what we had to deal with.

Staggs is worth keeping through every injury and every dollar we have to spend. I'm always for keeping our best young juniors.

I think we need to define what kind of salary you are imagining we will have to offer? I'm not saying we pay him more than 700k.

Lodge is on about 700k a year and Ofa is on 600k... I'd much rather pay Staggs and release those two.

Yeah but hindsight is wonderful - had we known we would sign Bird for 800k a season and get 17 games out of him over 3 seasons, then yeah I don't think anyone would've signed him.

Had we got the Cronulla version of Jack Bird, he would've 100% been worth it.

No player is worth keeping through every injury, that's just straight up nonsense. I'll be honest, while having juniors is nice, I couldn't really give a **** if we won a comp with 17 New South Welshmen. Having juniors in a winning team is nice, winning the damn thing is what matters ultimately.

Having lots of juniors but doing **** all with them, or developing them and having them leave for other clubs to reap the benefits of (while we languish) is the equivalent of doing our best but the winner is the one fucking prom queen.

and we're out the back, in a corner, having a wank.

I'd offer staggs no more than 550k for at least the first year of his deal, when it would be his first season back from an ACL. Maybe a 3 year deal worth 1.8 overall, with slight increases each year - if he proves he's an elite centre by the time of his next contract, give him his bag.

but you have to earn it first, and he hasnt'.

I never agreed with the Jack Bird signing. Some would call it foresight. Now my foresight sounds like it is hindsight.

I want to keep Staggs. I agree 550k would be ideal for us as a club.

Although, I would spend up to 700k in order to keep him.. If that's what was needed.

Don't have time to explain but just think about it. Staggs is worth keeping.
He's defense is abhorrent and he is actively looking elsewhere. We don't need people that are not committed and we can't pay players more than they are worth so **** him off.

His defence can be worked on.

I really don't blame any Broncos player for actively looking at their options. That's just good business on their behalf. I think Staggs is one player we should pay based on potential. As I said before my limit for any centre would be 700k.

You could be the best centre in the world but my limit would always be 700k for a centre and I would only have one marquee centre in the team.

It's just salary cap management. I think Staggs is a good bet to be our star centre for a long time.

Oh and I have no idea how we are paying Flegler 650k a season already. Staggs is more valuable without a doubt.

I want him to stay, but $600k is overs just because tigers or some other desperate club is throwing massive coin at him.

If he wants the cash early to go and play out of Shitney then all good... if he wants to take $400-$500 and remain in Brisbane then also all good.

I just cant be fucked getting into a bidding war ala Fifita for a center that still has plenty to work on

If we release Milford after next year then won't we have 1 mil to play with?
On paper maybe. Look both Lockyer and Walters have said they haven’t got any to spend on players and most are thinking salary cap.
I hope I'm wrong but I think we’re broke.

Well he's a center that cant defend... if some idiot club is willing to pay him $600k good luck to him.

Offer him his value $400k-$500k if he doesn't like it then see ya later and enjoy Shitney.

Priorities are elsewhere at this stage and we have Coates, Niu (considered by some to be a center) and also Isaako who played right center in qcup.

Couldn't care less about some of these players at the moment

Must admit I never saw Issako in the centers for Souths. He was always fullback when I watched him.

We are definitely going to suck for a long time if we don't pay our best players what they deserve.

I think Staggs deserves 700k on the open market.

600k to stay at Broncos.

We don't have to get into a bidding war but we should offer him what he is worth. I think now we are all of a sudden underrating the guy. He's a machine.
