Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently especially with how good our reserve grade sides have been going. I am personally of the belief a way we can really nail our cap is that we get 20-22 really high quality players keep the not ready youngsters as development players and then get the best 8-10 players in our q-cup sides to round out the team and make up our train and trial list with the odd youngster in the squad. Instead of signing washed up players like teo, Levi and co. Sign in form q-cup players and give them the chance to go somewhere. Even if there not in the game day side at least they have confidence and a bit more experience than the youngsters and plodders we are currently filling the side with. These players are all just waiting to jump at the chance as well so they’ll come cheap. Some players are examples below:
- Jon Reuben
- Jack Ahearn
- Levaha Pulu
- Delouise Hoeter
- Jack Canpagnolo
- Sam Scarlett
- Jayden Berrell
- Zeb Taia
-Matiu Love-Henry
- Luke Bateman
- Ethan Quai-Ward
- Isaiah Tass

There’s also a couple of other players from other teams we could try and target:
- Trai Fuller
- Kurtis Rowe
- Jordan Grant
- Pat Politoni

I understand that obviously we can’t get all these players but I feel like some need to be rewarded especially considering the majority of the players named are sitting in the top 8 (all of them from Brisbane clubs). I’m no q-cup expert but I watch the highlights, the odd game and look over stats and these are the players that continue to impress and perform at greater rates than our youngsters usually so I don’t see why they aren’t the ones filling our squad rather than our players. What I’m pushing is that 8-10 players are getting a spot but with so many players off contract and on the verge of leaving, if we want cap space I’d be especially looking to replace them with:
- Hoeter
- Scarlett
- Berrell
- Reuben
- Rowe
- Grant

Low quality source but thought it was worth sharing anyway.

Even if he is replaced in the halves for next year (I think he will be), I'd still be interested in possibly having him in the 17 at either lock or 14.

Ball playing lock with a bit of size, rather than using our lock as a prop.

Holy, this Ezra Mam kid is special. Him and Reynolds the halves next year if he keeps tearing it up. He would be perfect a real live wire than even though he is young he will be next to a veteran halfback next year and could really benefit from that.

Staggs will likely be given first shot (unless they play him in the halves when he returns this year and decide we're better with him at center)

however IMO, we should re-sign Albert Kelly for a further 12 months (he won't cost much) and play him at 6 next year. he could play a similar role to Cody Walker at Souths.

that allows us to give Mam plenty of time to develop his game in the ISC. I would be getting both Josh James and Ezra Mam in around the NRL side (at training a fair bit) as well, to be mentored by Reynolds.

He didn't tear it up on Saturday at all- he played ok.

I'm with AOB on this one. KP was no chance from the get go and the Knights medical staff said as much.

KP basically just got himself a free trip up to origin camp and took someone else's spot in the squad by making himself eligible.

Imagine if he had done more damage on the training park and missed more footy than he already has. AOB has every reason to be upset.
It’s not what he said, it’s that he did it so publicly. He’s definitely a Seibold clone in throwing everyone else under the bus but himself.

The funny thing with Dufty is that his manager expressed interest in the Broncos a while back. Nothing much happened around it. If we go back in, probably loose bargaining power this time.

probably depends on what other clubs are interested in him, how much they offer and whether they have a vacancy at fullback.

I don't think so as Dufty's options are pretty slim. It is either us or the Bulldogs and Barrett hasn't shown much patience with his signings if they don't set things alight from the get go. Allen - moved to centre, Cotric - moved to wing, Flanagan - thrown under the bus a few times and dumped.

Any other club and he is going in either as a utility or as a second choice fullback. So we would still have bargaining power but hopefully if negotiations are entered into, it is a good result for both him and the club.

This just makes way too much sense. Having a pair of experienced halves guiding the team around would be such a breath of fresh air

My fear for next year is still our defence, we may have better halves and possibly even a fullback but if we aren't going to sort out our first contact, get desperate in defence and get a bit of line speed then we are still screwed.
Yup. Lots of plodders in our line up. Need to find a few tough a nails players who are aren't lighting the world on fire offensively but almost never miss a tackle. And fitness. Our boys are way off the mark there, convinced a lot of our problems are due to other teams simply being fitter.

'The fire is still burning inside me and I want to be the best player I can be. But as a playmaker, if you aren’t getting good ball, there’s not really much you can do.'

So he is now blaming everyone else and refusing to take responsibility for his atrocious form over many years?
lol

TBF, that is a rehashed quote from after magic round ... but yes, he started blaming others. now it's his injury's fault. not sure what he'll blame next

It's the exact same line he ran with before his latest return to first grade.
