Huh? Lodge played prop on his own, didn't he? Or did he have a club supplied spirit animal? I really have no idea what you meant !You do understand Kennedy can't play Prop on his own right?
the media may have jumped the gun who knows
This is why Hynes was such a bad miss for us. He offered the second ball playing option to compliment Reynolds at either fullback or 5/8th, which then would have enabled us to run a rookie in whatever position he was not filling, either Staggs at 5/8th or Niu at fullback. Having rookies in both of those positions places too much pressure on Reynolds in my view. This thread highlights the difficulty in managing a roster. We have a quality halfback coming and we seem determined to gamble on Staggs at 6. Personally I’m happy with that but I acknowledge that it is a risk. So that leaves hooker and fullback as critical positions to fill with the best players we can.
I like Turpin. He’s a tackle bot upgrade from Macca because he hits harder and is prettier. And there’s still hope that he can improve his attacking game. Surely if we spend money on a hooker then they need to be clearly better than him. That means if we can’t get Smith or possibly Hodgson at market value then we stay all in on Turpin until we develop someone better.
It’s a similar situation with Niu at fullback. Who is available that is better? Dufty is available and reasonably priced but is he better? I like Cobbo as a footballer but only the staff would really know if or when he will be a top 8 fullback. Isaako is not an option.
What I am saying is that in the past our staff have made judgement calls that have proven to be wrong. None of us have access to enough information to make definitive calls on the roster. All we can do is hope that the new staff have better judgement and resist the temptation to pay overs for a potential quick fix and if they can’t get an established player then be patient and do better at developing the players we need.
Fixing the culture and attitude of the group will give an immediate boost until we are able to improve the quality of our squad.
You dont see Capewell, Riki, Piakura and Robati as sufficient Edge coverage for 2022?
We've lost Lodge and we're likely losing TPJ. You can't replace them in the squad with Kennedy because he's already in the squad, so it stands to reason that we will need to take on at least one, but probably two Middle Forwards to replace them - hence the willingness to look at a guy like Ah Mau who generally contributes more than his pay packet would probably warrant.Huh? I agree Hynes was a bad miss. We need the staff to accurately assess our contracted players and our potential signings character, talent and market value. Clearly they got their assessment of Hyne’s market value horribly wrong when they lowballed him that much (if the rumours are true). This is why Hynes was such a bad miss for us. Re the hooker role, if we are going to run with Turpin, I would be paying whatever Cam Smith wants to come and do specialist coaching with Turpin, Paix and *McCullough* all pre-season and then sessions each week during the season as well. Paix may yet prove to be the short term fix until a developing player comes through to fill that role.

I'd sort of figured that Capewell would lock down an Edge role and that the other three would be rotated along the other Edge until one of them stood up and demanded to be the top pick.Yes and no. There is only one player there with any real experience. Not that Frei would help with that in NRL experience i guess but i think he has got a bit more maturity about his game than everyone there but Capewell.
My understanding was its was Hynes decision to move to the South Coast for personal and/or family reasons.I agree Hynes was a bad miss. We did the same with Lodge but wildly over valued him. He is a good player and wanted to be loyal but we had to push him out to save money when we couldn’t afford his contact that we gave him unnecessarily. He owed us and wasn’t in huge demand. He would have signed a lesser contact in the first place and we wouldn’t be paying him to play against us now.
I just hope that the Reynolds and Capewell signings are the start of us getting these things right from now on.
The valutation of Hynes was arguably not that 'lowball' at the time, it's just that in the month following that he won a regular starting spot and then went on probably the biggest purple patch of any player this year, hence his value basically doubled in just a few short weeks.I agree Hynes was a bad miss. i dont think Peacheys going back to the Titans....
And no, i dont think we should lose any sleep not pursuing him either...
So they can sorta sign TPJ nowHe's SACKED!!!!....Maybe sorta
Nope. You can't have it both ways. And the players not honoring contracts get raked over the coals. But clubs wanting to move players on get a pass.what do you mean? widdop wanted out of his contract because he was home sick, the broncos breaking contracts now is to get themselves out of salary cap cap trouble, which lodges contract was overseen by a different CEO, Head of football and coach
I think Hynes wanted to go back to Sydney rather than come to Brisbane once the offers started coming in. While I agree Hynes would have been a good pickup I think he would only have come here if we were his only pathway to a first grade spot. I think we pulled out when we saw he wasn't going to come here and didn't bother trying to match the bigger offersI agree Hynes was a bad miss. If you genuinely cannot see that as a double standard then there really is no helping you.what do you mean? widdop wanted out of his contract because he was home sick, the broncos breaking contracts now is to get themselves out of salary cap cap trouble, which lodges contract was overseen by a different CEO, Head of football and coach
