Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

This debate is so stupid.

Carrigan & Haas are our starting props currently and Bullemor clearly isn't a lock. Therefore he isn't a starter.

Bullemor also offers significantly more impact off the bench than Carrigan or anyone else on the roster at the moment, so there's no real reason to change his role.

He may eventually just be playing so well that he forces himself into the starting lineup, but that hasn't happened yet.
Spot on mate.

In the modern game, having such a game changing weapon from the bench is massive. It doesnt disrespect or even make the players value lower. I think players who can play that role well are worth their weight in gold personally.

You cant even really compare Bullemor to anyone else we have because he is probably the only forward who offers what he does. Like i said, a good side have a blend of different players who offer different things.

Carrigan is a solid, basic front rower with an extremely limited ceiling in this current version of the game. He's had far more game time than Bullemor and has produced far less moments which make me think he's a must-keep prospect.
Bullemor is EXACTLY what you want from a middle forward nowadays and everytime I watch him play I am impressed and want to see more.
Letting him go will be a big mistake.
All the people here that were calling for Lodge to go were quoting the same limitations which make Carrigan expendable.

Does anyone know how much he’s on currently?

Talented prop Logan Bayliss has signed a two-year contract with the Brisbane Broncos.

The 21-year-old Queenslander has trained with the Broncos NRL squad during the 2020 season through the Club’s Affiliate relationship with Souths Logan Magpies, impressing with his commitment and skill. He has signed with the Broncos for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

If Isaako and Bullemor leaving help to land a gun hooker or fullback, especially hooker, I am ok with it.

Well I did not expect that but I've liked what I have seen in Q Cup, I wonder if he is the Bullemor replacement.

Carrigan last year wasnt that far behind Haas in his output. Bullemor isnt capable of doing what Pat or Haas do for the team, but neither of those can do the same type of thing Bullemor can. They all compliment each other. Every team need solid front rowers, every team needs a point of difference coming off the bench.

I do like Bullemor, talked him up before he even got anywhere near our 17, but i think people talking about him as if he has had a break out season with a string of outstanding performaces. He's probably had 2 or 3 really good games, the rest he's been ok.

I think your point nailed it exactly. We already have a huge, metre-eating workhorse front rower in Haas. Would the team benefit more from having another poor-man's Haas to do the same job? Certainly in previous decades the Webcke - Petero type pairing of 2 battering rams was great, but that's not where the game is anymore. It's nothing against Carrigan who I actually really like. If we didn't have Haas, he'd be a 'must keep'.

I think the team would benefit from having a more dynamic, ball-playing, opportunity-creating middle. When the ball goes to a player like Haas, opposition players can jam in and cut off the play - they know the ball isn't going any wider. Having a middle who can spread the ball and link both sides of the field is a real asset in today's game.

I'm not saying Bullemor is there yet (or even that he ever will get there), but he has shown ALL the signs that he has the skills and build to be a massive asset to the team in that sort of role. If I had to pick one then I'd pick Bullemor over Carrigan (just personally). The best option for the team (however unpopular) may actually be to keep Carrigan and Bullemor and move on Haas if he is demanding up near $1m / year.

he can't do the meter making by himself ... he needs support.

Haas wouldn't be doing it alone. To me, Bullemor has shown the skills to produce at a decent level (maybe not as high as Carrigan), but also offer another attacking dimension in the middle of the field which we currently lack.

Right now, the middle of the field for us is just barge-and-ram, run up the middle, basic football. Wouldn't it be nice to have an attacking weapon in the middle? ESPECIALLY if Paix or some other 9 starts creating opportunities around the ruck?

Bullemore isn't a meter eater.

I dont think we can afford to have just Haas. His career will be on the decline in 5 years no matter how much of an athletic freak he is with the way the game is going. I think it was criminal how we used Haas and Carrigan last year for young props ( even though we played Pat at lock ). I think we easily have the room to have Haas, Carrigan, Bullemor, Flegler, Jensen and Kennedy as our props with backup from our younger guys as well. Hetherington and Robati i think can handle lock.

Bullemor tbf isnt really a ball player, he's more an explosive ball runner. Really quick with good footwork. He's always impressed me how he seized opportunities in games for Norths when they presented themselves. He's a smart footy player in that respect.

And if we tried to make him into a workhorse, it would come at a cost. He wouldn’t / couldn’t have the engine to be a workhorse AND be explosive and dynamic.

I know I bag Milf relentlessly, but it’s the same thing with trying to turn him into something he wasn’t. Ruined his game by slowly eroding the good parts.

Play Bullemor to his strengths.
