Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2022

I'd love to see Oates re-sign as much as I would like to see anyone else in our team sign, him probably more so

He toiled away when it was hard to be a Bronco fan and here he is out the other side doing some great things, hope the club look after him as good as they can without it costing us in the cap

Corey Oates' manager George Mimis is talking to the club about extending Corey's contract by two years:

“Corey has spent a decade with the Broncos and would like to be a one-club player. We are in ongoing discussions with the Broncos as we speak and hope to have a mutually acceptable outcome soon.”

Corey Oates:

“I thought I was nearly done, not just with the Broncos but footy in general. That’s how I was feeling and it’s not a good feeling to have."
"A lot of hard work went into getting back. I wasn’t enjoying the game. It’s been a long few years. When nothing works, your body starts to ache, click and crack every day … it’s not enjoyable. I wasn’t doing the extras and work I should have been doing. I just wanted to get back to enjoying footy again and it was good to get the reward of that Queensland jumper.”
“I’ve always said I wanted to stay. This is my 10th year at the Broncos but I feel really good about myself and the body. I need to keep looking after myself and hopefully I can last a lot longer. I am enjoying my footy again.”

Adam Reynolds:

“Corey has been awesome for us. I hate to admit it but he has probably become my best mate at the Broncos. We chew each other’s ears off and he is a bit of a pest like myself. When I signed with the Broncos, I knew what Corey was capable of. He wasn’t playing his best last year but he has worked his butt off and it’s great to see him fight his way back.”

Broncos will resign Oates on these couple sentences alone.

No surprise 2 of the broncos biggest pests are mates

I think Corey knows he has a job with the club for the rest of his life. He is adored by the fans and will go straight into a community job that will allow him to play plenty of golf and still earn good coin. Should get him for unders to finish his career with that firmly in the negotiations discussions.

I thought it would be interesting to have a quick look at Corey’s career in try’s scored.

the format will be year/appearances/tries

2014 - 20 - 5

So take out the twilight zone years, he’s been elite consistently for us. I guess we shouldn’t be surprised he’s bounced back under not the worst coach of all time.

He's definitely not as acrobatic as he used to be, you don't see as many crazy dives as before, but still scoring a lot...I wonder how many tries he'd have this year if he was still trying to be a stunt double in an action movie.

His defensive work and safety under the high ball seems like a pretty god trade off. He’s been so impressive this season.

He used to terrify me under the high ball, now no matter how difficult the catch I have the thought “lucky they kicked that one to Oatesy”
