Do we still think Payne will leave? I have no idea. He's absolutely not worth the money he's asking. All he does is soak up some damage from opposing forwards for longer periods than other front rowers can manage. It's not nothing, but human brick walls aren't that expensive, and he offers next to nothing in attack.

I'd say this year Haas has been shut down pretty well in terms of run metres. But the work he does with his tough carries is phenomal.

I know we all have a slight bias against Haas due to his love of money, it's taken me a while and I still haven't fully got over it.

But I do believe we are now a bit unfair on Haas. He is one of the premier front rowers in the game. We should pay him accordingly to that, rather than pay him as one of the premier players in the comp.

We agree to differ again on this one. I actually like Payne and don't really care about his contract wrangling other than I don't think he's worth what he's already on.

But I'm firm on him being an underperformer in attack. Yes, I have noticed him joining the line, and he's capable of passing to the right, but he pales beside Carrigan, and even Flegler in that regard. Plus Flegs and Patty have an offload game.

Payne is just a big teddy bear with a non-stop motor. He's our Hodor.

Yep, also Macca. We specialize in taking these players who could barely get a game in the QCup at 6 and making them train at hooker so we can carry them on the bench to cover multiple spine positions. And then they become our starting hooker. None have the x-factor you need to crack it in the halves, but they're all okay enough to kind of do the job in a pinch. None could displace Tyrone Roberts, for example. Which raises another question I'm too lazy to ask.

You could point to Ben Hunt if you want to embarrass my rudimentary logic.

I dont think you are wrong with what you say about him being one of the best, but even before his act of stupidity against us i was still saying for the money he wants, he needs more in his game than being an athletic freak with a big motor who makes meters. Especially now with rumours of Flegler fielding offers, i think we need to be smart with his contract. I really wouldnt go over $750k.

Get ready for Badel's latest doozy.

According to Badel Flegler has become the most sort after forward in the game after "Fielding offers" of "up to" 800k a season, to leave us.

Flegler is off contract at the end of next year making him a "free agent" from November 1 (so I don't know how he could field offers, when other clubs can't make him offers until Nov 1)

Badel says 4 rivals (including two Sydney based clubs) have lodged "expressions of interests" for Flegler

Badel says that Flegs preference is to remain with us, but we face a "big money battle" to keep Haas, so salary cap pressures could force Flegs out.

Badel says Flegler is on $650k this season, but NRL suitors have discussed offers of $750k to $800k annually in a bid to prise the hard-running forward from the Broncos.

Fleglers manager, Tas Bartlett of PSM says:

“What happens with Payne Haas and the Broncos will have a bearing on what happens with Tom,”

“The Broncos will sit down with Payne at the end of the year and unfortunately, the Broncos may not be able to afford Tom.

“He is on good money at the moment and sometimes four or five really good forwards don’t go into three under the salary cap.

“Tom would love to stay at the Broncos, he has been with the club since he was a teenager, but there’s some big money being offered to him and we have to consider it.

“We will be testing his value on the open market.

“He is in no rush, he is contracted until the end of 2023 and whether Brisbane can match the deal he is currently on with the fantastic young roster they have coming through, it might be difficult financially.”

“The Broncos value Tom and they would love to keep him, but with the salary cap, every club knows you can’t always keep the guys you want,” Bartlett said.

“We’ve had interest from four clubs.

“Tom is still only 23 and after four seasons in the NRL, he is coming into the prime of his career in terms of middle forwards.

“If he was to stay at the Broncos, they will get a lot out of him, but if he was to go to another club, he would be a great signing because he ticks all the boxes.

“Tom is the aggressor who brings a hard edge. Other players love playing with a guy like Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (Roosters enforcer) ... and every club needs a tough prop like Flegler on their roster.

“Clubs are willing to pay him around $750,000-$800,000, that’s what the market is telling us.

“Tom will have to consider staying at a reduced rate to be part of something.

“The Broncos are building towards success with their roster and often players take less to stay if they are winning.

“My other client, Selwyn Cobbo, took less to stay at the Broncos and there’s every chance ‘Fleg’ will want to stay with his mates and take less to chase a premiership.

“I will present all the options to Tom and he will make the final call.”

I'd happily pay big Flegs $700 on his next contract with an incentive based upgrade to $750 for the year after that. Provided he met those key points. He is our only forward that does bring aggression in his defence. Hetherington hurts but he is no Radley in terms of threat.

Wish we could see a bit more of Willison as I'm sure he'll be a mainstay if we shuffle haas out the door.

LOL Titans bought the Broncos kid who was a half they tried to turn into a hooker and failed and turned him back into a half .

I don't think Billy is "bad" by any means, and I haven't done a forensic examination of other hookers, but I couldn't see any other team wanting to poach him.

@McHunt - what about Jake Simpkin? I’m still hoping we can bring him back for next year as the Tigers have Api coming.

I haven't watched enough Tigers games to comment on him. I'd definitely take Api.

I would try to shape Gamble into dummy half, but concensus here is he's too tall. He has the character I like in one, his hands are decent, but most of all we win when he plays.
