Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2022

I remember Robinson once discussing his views on roster balance and how he tries to manage his for the long term.

I forget how he exactly grouped them but it was something like

Veterans
Seasoned
Rookies

I decided to do my own exercise with it for the Broncos 2023 Squad, adding a few more categories into the mix.

200+ Games
Adam Reynolds

100-199 Games
Corey Oates
Kurt Capewell

60-99 Games
Payne Haas
Corey Jensen
Thomas Flegler
Kotoni Staggs
Patrick Carrigan

20-59 Games
Herbie Farnworth
Jordan Riki
Jordan Pereira
Jesse Arthars
Reece Walsh
Kobe Hetherington
Billy Walters
Tesi Niu
Keenan Palasia
Cory Paix
Selwyn Cobbo
Tyson Gamble*

6-19 Games
TC Robati
Ezra Mam

0-5 Games
Xavier Willison
Deine Mariner
Brendan Piakura
Blake Mozer
Ethan Quai-Ward

Now I may have gone too far with the sub-categories, but this was the general rule of thumb.

200 Games
Your veterans who maybe past their physical peaks but have a great understanding of the game and can problem solve with the best of them.

100-199 Games
Typically an experienced player who has made a career out of the sport. Ideally these are players entering their peak years but can often be filled with veterans who had their share of disruptions whether it be code changes

60-99 Games
A player who has broken out of the 3 season average and they're important parts of the team but they may lack experience in the bigger games.

20-59 Games
Most NRL careers only last three seasons, so this is your regular category where you expect the most amount of movement. You also see tend to see a mixture of depth players and developing players.

6-19 Games
These are the players who have played enough games to earn more responsibility but they're still essentially rookies and have to be shown some level of patience.

0-5 Games
These are your rookies and typically you've promoted them to the NRL squad because they're supremely talented but you know that you've really got to simplify their role and give them room to make mistakes.

Now is that the general rule of thumb clubs operate under? No, but I thought it was an interesting way to look at squads under those terms.
It would be interesting to breakdown the Roosters squad into similar brackets.

I made a post recently saying we didn’t have enough 100-200 gamers but tbh I actually don’t know how we shape up to the good teams

It's a good way to break down the squad but it would be interesting to get Robinson's thoughts on composition within each group.
@1910 might remember what I'm talking about.I'm pretty sure it was in reference to Sam Walker.

It may have also been in reference to his depth chart and how he likes to have the NRL Player, The Depth Option and then the understudy ala Sam Walker. So in that case Kyle Flanagan, Lachlan Lam and Sam Walker.

2022 Squad

Right, but if they're letting Haas go just to sign an older less athletic version, it's a downgrade. Especially when you consider the esteem Haas' team mates hold him.
It’s not if it’s on a third of what Haas is

I had to put it into a table... and have also added the rorters squad to give an idea of their composition.

2020 was heavily weighted on the rookies and sub 20 gamers... whereas this year and next year looks to be leaning heavily on the 20-59 gamers, also noting that several of the 2022 squad have jumped up to the next bracket in 2023 due to games played this year.

Comparing that to the rorters squad and they lean much more on players beyond 60 games with 12 players beyond that bracket being regulars in their 17... compared to 4 for us this year and 8 in 2023.

That could be a matter of circumstance for the rorters given their squad has been together for so long... but it would suggest that the broncos should be looking to get more of those players beyond 60 games and definitely more beyond 100 games.

At least in first glance is appears far more balanced.

The media are pretending that Gamble just said this stuff. Other fans are posting it was said about a month ago.

The old drunk Buzz Rothfield etc are leading the charge

You know if you're going to slag off journalists as dishonest, you might want to try being honest yourself. Here's what was actually said:

"Gamble made the comments as part of a one-hour podcast interview three weeks ago in which he largely praised Walters’ team-first mentality, but said Broncos players mainly sought help from marquee recruit Reynolds."

I never mentioned what he said. So don't twist your shit with me.

The same suspects Badel, couriermail & the drunk. They are twisting what was said.

Bronco gives Walters no respect Fair to say Kevin Walters may be regretting picking Tyson Gamble this week after watching this?

The thing is if they supposedly don’t lurk bhq for their stories, then why wasn’t this reported by them 3 weeks ago. It’s a throwback to the seibold era when AT LEAST once a week a cm story would be rehashed speculation from this website. You should be taking a commission for finding them this story mchunt.

You said this: "The media are pretending that Gamble just said this stuff." Which they're not.

I find it often the case when you factcheck a spazzout at the media that the spazee failed to comprehend the article or only read the headline.

It's been all over Reddit for some time. The take that Gamble was having a subtle dig is pretty much everyone's impression. It's not confined to a couple of blokes who write for some newspaper.
