Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Middles (roughly in order of current ability):

1. Carrigan
2. Haas
3. Flegler
4. Jensen
5. Hetherington
6. Palasia
7. Robati (pending)
8. Coburn
9. Willison
10. Riki (Piakura 2nd row)
11. Bayliss
12. Te Kura
13. Oluapu (lock)

3 props on train and trials

All of them would be good additions to the bench. It is Fairly well balanced depth. Any team who is requiring their 12th run prop is already in trouble but It depends on who is out, yeah if Patty, Haas, Hetherington, and Jensen are all injured then we are screwed but if Te Kura gets a start because Palasia, Robati, Willison, and Hetherington are injured he will do a good job off the bench.
Palasia left. He’s at the titans. We have no depth.

If Staggs doesn’t have a good year he can leave.

Staggs and Riki are definitely on my list of surplus to requirements based on their form last year. Staggs especially was just awful. Poor defensively and offered next to nothing in attack. I’d definitely be open to trading him for Fifita. Or maybe even a trade with Shaun lane at Parra.

Trade him to south’s for arrow

I'm not sure it is "pretty easy to see." I think we all can agree Kotoni's season started badly, went red hot before Origin and then petered out in a way none of us can satisfactorily explain. Selwyn's pretty much the same, though his peaks and troughs were higher and lower. Riki was roundly maligned for spilling balls and not offering enough in attack. But, in reality he was pretty solid, if unremarkable.

You won't find much evidence of any of this in the stats. It's all eye of the beholder. Riki's stats are pretty decent. Certainly compared to every other edge forward. Look for yourself.

Kotoni had 4 try assists to Herbie's 2, though that's from almost twice as many games. Herbie was just starting to hit his straps before he was injured racking up a blistering 10 tries in 12 games, a phenomenal improvement on last season's 3 tries from 20 games. Meanwhile Kotoni only scored 5, under par for him. But hardly abysmal.

It's ironic you're kind of accusing Kotoni of being a hog, and suggesting replacing him with Herbie, who's suffered the same criticism. Both, in my opinion, are excellent damaging defenders and are capable of ripping through defensive lines. Both have their ardent fans and detractors. They're both in my starting side.
I know that Riki has good base stats. I'm still not gonna bring him into my SC draft squad and I don't think that's enough for what the Broncos need at right edge backrow. He should get those base stats out in the middle for us is what I'm saying.. He'd be solid I think..

Also, I don't know what you're talking about replacing Staggs with Herbie? Herbie is going to be there at left centre regardless of what Staggs does. I don't even remember mentioning Herbie other than putting him in the line up.

Lets just try Staggs in the backrow before throwing him out. Would be nice if he could get running like Isaiah Papali'i

He's a second rower, it's really obvious. Just because he's a flat tracker and can run over centres like Morgan Harper doesn't change anything, he was downright exposed against Kotoni when the 2 teams met
He played the entire season at centre and was one of the better ones. He is as much a centre as second rower. He had a far superior 2022 to Staggs, no matter what happens when they played against each other. At least Talakai put together multiple good games.

Oh yeah that is right, I just checked.. But anyway, it's not like we'll even realise if he is there or not.. I think that's why we're letting him go.. Very easily replaceable
He’s a very solid depth prop. Nothing special but every club needs a guy like him. Just don’t play him in the second row.

he came through the grades predominantly a second rower, only moved to prop after his injuries.
