I would take Taupau in a heartbeat.

He's not the player he once was, but he's got a good work ethic and he doesn't tolerate laziness.

He will be good for the club though as long as he is only depth and injury cover like Ryan James.

He isn’t an upgrade on Palasia (for those saying he’s gone early). At least not on the field.

really happy about that signing. good replacement for Ryan James, gives us an old head in the pack to help show our young guns the way and will offer us far more on the field than James did.

having said that I am shocked that we managed to pull off the signing. from all the reporting it was a foregone conclusion that when the 2023 cap was finalised Taupau would sign with the Eels.

he's far from cooked

in 2022 he played 21 games all from the bench ... Averaging 38 mins per game; 11 runs for 99m and 19 tackles (1 missed).

that's pretty handy from a bench prop

I can’t say I love it but we needed the depth with Robati and Hetho out for a bit. As Long as he chucks up a better go from a mindset pov than he can play otherwise he can play cup.

Those of you who play supercoach will be able to interpret these figures easily. A PPM of over 1 is great. He's always been great and has now in recent times become underrated due to Des shifting him to bench and reducing his minutes.

2021 ran for the most running meters out of any forward in the comp I believe. He is a good buy if you ask me. Our forward pack should be good this year.

Personally I think we were at our best last year when Jensen and Haas started and Flegler came off the bench ripping and tearing.

Completely agree but I just don't think Kevvie has that kind of smarts in him to recognise that and I'm not sure any of his assistants do either.

Would have great about 8 years ago. From what I saw of him last year, he looked totally off the pace. But he'll fit that Ryan James/Sam Tagatese/Cliff Manua type role. I wouldn't think he'll feature on a regular basis.

He’ll fit that role but he’s a step or two above all those names mentioned when they joined our club and maybe he’s the real front row leader Haas has needed to start with all this time. I really do think Haas needs a big leader next to him on the field to take all the focus off of himself.

I’d be starting Haas and Jensen with Carrigan at lock. Marty and flegler would be good replacement forwards for sure.
