Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I'd like to know what we paid for him. Anything over 400k is a bit much if you include the jump in the cap. I think he can be good for the blokes in the gym, always had a high work ethic and he's not a scum bag off the field. I'd probably start him with Haas and bench Fleg.

so we reportedly beat out both the Rabbitohs and the Eels for Taupau's signature.

IMO, it's a good sign that the media aren't talking about a figure, because that generally means the figure isn't all that high
Being this close to the start of the season needing a club to play in the comp and not heavily chased during the off-season IMO tends to point to him not being paid heavily.

Hopefully more reliable than the last rumour that he was "set to" sign with the Eels:

From what I heard he was doing his medical at Parra yesterday, the Broncos called him he flew up this morning toured the facilities and signed this arvo.

Whether we offered more than Parra or he was more impressed by the club.

Great replacement for Ryan James I'd imagine he would have been brought in to play a similar role..

Well...this calls for another team list of course (given Hetherington and Robati are out):

1. Walsh
2. Oates
3. Staggs
4. Farnworth
5. Cobbo/Mariner
6. Mam
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Flegler
9. Walters
10. Haas
11. Capewell
12. Riki
13. Carrigan

14. Paix
15. Taupau
16. Jensen
17. Palasia/Piakura/Hoeter (I just have a feeling about this for some reason)
i think flegler and haas could be a great starting combo , meter eater and an aggressive type . they can be followed up by tapau and Jensen which is a similar combo

I think it’s a good signing he is the ultimate professional and is suited to a bench role it fits very nicely, very clever.

I would say we have paid a fair amount, to lure him from his business interests in Sydney even for a year makes me believe it was worth his while but again it’s only for the year (minus 2 months of pay due to only signing now) so doesn’t hurt our cap for 24 onwards

You have a point but personally I like the idea of making the starting 13 as intimidating as possible. I think our pack will be a bit scarier when the opposition thinks about both Haas and Taupau starting up front and Carrigan backing them up at lock.

8. Haas
10. Taupau
13. Carrigan

Each to their own though, dunno if there’s a right way to go.. It’s a big plus for our pack regardless

I’m thinking maybe we freed up some extra cash after replacing Niu with Sailor?

I reckon the reason 5 clubs were chasing him is because he's still got a lot to offer, to any team.

He's always been a mobile forward, he's not one of those blokes who is carrying a gut and will use his excess fat to create a bit of momentum, he's raw power. If our forwards stay fit, I don't know that many packs will be able to completely dominate us in the middle.
