It's pretty much the Sam Walker debacle redux, though I think he's probably more of a "star" than Sam was at the same age. Australian schoolboy captain and all. I'm happy for these kids to be described as "teenage superstars." It's a fleeting moment of fame for them that may be the highest height they ever reach. Once they make the NRL, they have to earn that "star" accolade all over again. He wouldn't be on much so it won't do much for our cap but glad to see the club is asking for a hefty transfer fee, it just sends a message to other clubs that we are no longer going to hand off our (insert catchy clickbait word here, usually "star".. despite having done nothing in the NRL) players for a pie and a coke.

So another "junior" who actually doesnt give a shit about the club and was always using it as a stepping stone.
I think the pathways and junior development need a looking into with most of the kids we bring through not actually wanting to play for the club... or happy to move on when any sort of offer comes through.
- Haas wanting a release
- Mariner requesting a release
- Staggs looking at deals in Sydney, but staying when no one would pay
- Dfif taking the cash
- Flegler getting way overs just to stay
- Dearden requesting a release
- Walsh taking a deal and requesting a release
I don't think it's realistic to expect players to make sacrifices to stay at a club. I know fans imagine this as a thing, but the same fans expect to be able to pick the eyes out of other teams as well. This is especially true of Broncos' fans who were bottle-raised on the notion we were able to pay unders because of supercoach Bennett, a guaranteed star profile and a shot at a title. And nothing to do with us handing "brown paper bags" under the table, of course. So another "junior" who actually doesnt give a shit about the club and was always using it as a stepping stone.

Whenever a player's contract is up for renewal we have to offer them more than they'd get elsewhere, and if it's not in the form of money, it has to be something else that's more than "loyalty," a jaded concept even the club itself doesn't respect. Right now, the only thing we can offer is money, and the Dolphins have more of that, a supercoach and the same lifestyle as Brisbane.
I reckon we could've kept Turps if we offered him the captaincy again.Doesn’t seem to be a problem for the Roosters hey.
Karl is probably the most talented young Bronco since K.Hunt and getting into the Sam Walker area for Mal Meninga and rep form.
Karl was 18 last week so whoever gets him he hasn't done an off-season but can play sometime this year already.
He could hurt the Broncos but they had no choice and they knew that. As much as they said no release it was always going to end like this eventually.
You can't win the PR battle making a kid sit around doing nothing and it takes up your time and energy.
We need edge forwards or a hooker. Good ones are quite rare in both positions.IMO, we should be seeking an equitable player swap in exchange for releasing the brat ... it's not like we need the cash
