Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

On that note, with Karl now gone along with Grey and even James. The clock ticking on Reynolds.

Are there any promising halves coming through if Mam and Madden don’t work out?
i Guess if Walters is still coach we’ll have billy. Tipping our halves to fail if billy doesn’t work out at 9.

Now this has happened and someone has paid a transfer fee, let's forget about developing and just go buy players when we need one.

It does set a precedent. I wonder if club strategies will not be to invest heavier in a development/junior, commit long term and have the protections knowing at least some investment can be recouped should they break contract or walk to another club.

Didn’t Lockyer fail to make Australian Schoolboys, or is my memory failing me?

Regardless, Matt Hayden was no good in high school. MJ couldn’t make his high school / college team.

Schoolboys is literally the only barometer anyone really has to go off until they step up in grades, but by the same token, it is also littered with players who peaked there and went on to achieve not a great deal more in their senior careers.

Anyway, Kale is at the Dogs now and I will watch with interest how they manage his seemingly enormous ego and me, me, me attitude.

Apparently Josh Giddey couldn’t make his high school basketball team, now he’s one of the biggest up and comers in the NBA.

Lockyer made the Qld U16 team and Queensland school boys his last two years of high school but then went straight to Colts for the Broncos.

Only played 12 Colts games too before his debut at 18.

Hayden was playing SS at 19 and scored 149 on debut- he didn't need to muck around with schoolboy cricket!

Gus was here for Toowoomba and he signed Marshall and Karl two of the best MM players.

Karl could be playing for Toowoomba in two months!

Why was Gus here for Toowoomba ?
Are they a feeder club for the Bulldogs ?
In my opinion Katoa is clearly a far better player who has proven he can make the step to the next level and still be a star. A good schoolboy state carnival doesn’t compete with winning Penrith u18’s, u21’s, a reserve grade elimination final on debut and playing for Tonga in the World Cup. Plus on top of that he made all the same schoolboy rep sides as Karl whilst also cementing himself as the best union schoolboy in the country as well. Only thing Karl has on him was the state carnival match up which you referenced and the Aus schools captaincy.

Obviously, Gray is a bit more up for debate and obviously Karl will never have the same defensive questions asked of him as Jye will. But there accomplishments at such a size indifference for mine speaks volumes at a level where any sort of size and strength dominated. Jye is all class and wreaks arguably more havoc with a far smaller frame. Karl for mine whilst silky will have to work really hard and sharpen nearly every facet of his game by a lot to reach the heights he supposedly is so destined to.

I just am not of the opinion that physical specimens such as Karl can be considered with such high esteem about the inevitability on their success later in life. Seen far too many players not make that jump who have had the same physical blessings that make them look far better cause they are doing it against inexperienced and inadequate defences.

Karl no doubt is a great player against school boys and that’s all he has played till now so he can go out there and prove me wrong, but it’s my opinion. After all I’m not standing here trying to claim it’s factual unlike yourself. This is my opinion. I am not going to preach the thoughts and opinions of you if that’s not what I believe in or think. You can have your opinion and I will have mine but don’t come at me or anyone saying an opinion is incorrect cause you don’t agree with it.

My opinion is that Karl Oloapu will not be a good enough player against grown Men. You can think it’s crazy or disagree but next time instead of saying something that so obviously isn’t that crazy is made up you can just say I disagree followed by the exact same points you presented. I’d much rather that way than you dismissing an opinion as factually incorrect because your inferiority complex on the juniors and reserve grade area means you dismiss any notion you don’t agree with because people listen to you. Your knowledge is unrivalled on these areas but that doesn’t make other people’s differing opinions worthless or incorrect to the ongoing conversation on the kid. Love most of what you say but you do this A LOT.
Karl was tremendous playing for Queensland last year and at lock

Broncos saw Karl as a forward not a half .
That`s where the problem for Karl was forward money < half money .

School boys selectors had similar thoughts ...

Who from the Broncos offered Karl the top 30 and 5/8 role in the first place which created this mess. Or is it all BS from Karl?

He played Lock for the School Boys .
What made him think he is a 1st grade half ?

It becomes interesting now- that 18/19 age group is so important.

The havles for U19 Origin last year- Duffy and Wilson and Gray on the bench. Broncos had 2/3 and now have none. Duffy just won a Colts premiership with Townsville and Dogs chased him too-He was the 6 in the Australian team with Weaver in 21.

New South Wales halves Weaver and Pezet- Titans and Storm.

Australian schoolboy halves Karl and Katoa one at the Dogs and Dolphins.

The Bronco have gone from Karl, Gray, Mam and Wilson to just Mam.

You'd have to start looking below that age group-16/17 now and hope Mam and Reynolds buy you some time.

Meninga Cup will throw up someone, Gray had a breakout year in 22.

Do you think the club couldn’t have done much due to Karl’s actions or in retrospect has someone dropped the ball?

I reckon before finals last year, Gould toured Toowoomba area to scout out feeder clubs for Dogs & he has managed to get a couple. He set his net then and now has gone there to fetch his catch.

They are back in the ISC. Bulldogs are everywhere. Academies, development and Gus is up there all the time.

You can’t plan for a release. I mean Dogs signed SBW up for five years before he took off. Players have been asking and getting or being denied forever. You just need to try and help them but when that fails get something from it. Make the club so great they don’t ask but even then a SBW can happen.
