Read and Badel are very different reporters.
Read is good for opinion pieces: whether you agree with his opinion or not. For instance, he wrote a long piece on why the club had to sack Payne last year. Never happened, I didn't agree with it, but it was well reasoned. His record on gossip is lean, and not so hot. I don't think he bothered to dig into the Herbie story.
Badel rarely injects opinion. He's just not that interesting. He can lean into some bias, sure, but mostly his stuff is trying to milk something newsworthy out of the soul-destroying press conferences the Broncos trot out. Both parties look like they're only doing it out of obligation. Badel files his piece - which is rarely worth reading - and the subs try to spin some excitement out of it. Readers get confused that the story is oversold by the headline and blame Badel. Rinse and repeat.
We're really only interested in Broncos gossip, which by its nature is unreliable. The club spins against the reporters who are spinning against their spinning. I've found Badel to be usually directionaly accurate, but rarely precise. The more confident he is the more likely it pans out. He came across as very confident in that Herbie piece but it was definitely presented as not to be banked quite yet. That's fine, we treated it as a rumour. I'm not writing him off yet.
Dobbo, on the other hand: take no notice of how confident he is. He's always got the inside word. And it's quite often wrong. Entertainment value only.
I appreciate you taking the time to write all of that but for me (and I am not speaking for anyone else), I couldn't care less about any gossip, hence the reason I often speak up when an article gets put on here and a number of posters get excited but there is not one quote from anyone / anyone of note in there, it is misleading and therefore, in my opinion, it should be called out, regardless of who the reporter is.
We've been over all of this and so I'm not saying this to start it all again. You work from a position of respect for Badel and likely, some others too. I work from the position that basically all of them are rubbish sensationalists, therefore our views will never align on this, there is no point for us to try and convince each other of our opposing views, we won't agree. I do not want gossip columns to masquerade as news but I appreciate several other posters feel differently and while I don't agree, I respect their right to have a different view. So I am trying to take a new approach of trying not to call out what I view as rubbish all the time so as to not derail every thread because of it when a baseless / rumour-filled article is reported.
All I will try and stick to now is to just call out a measure to excitement / despair when a baseless article comes out if freaking out occurs.
