Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Eeeer ,,, you seem to be forgeting his debut when he played lock in the middle of the field and killed it .

Not forgetting at all. That game was testament to how good Ponga can be when he's focused, but as always with KP it seems to be one incredible performance where he is fired up and wants to be involved in everything followed by 10 horrible lazy performances where he looks like he'd rather be making TikToks and playing golf than on the field.

You can see right away in his demeanour and on-field energy whether he is interested or not. When he is motivated, he is unstoppable, but it's increasingly rare these days - with a few breathtaking exceptions (like Origin 3 last year)

Walters rumoured to be on the verge of a two year extension. Credibility rating: "Newcorp can reveal."

Surely it to quash the noise around players speaking about his coaching credentials.
There would have been media beat up every game we lose. By re-signing him, the media narrative is somewhat mitigated.

Looks like we'll have another opening in our top 30.

Badel:

A high-profile NRL player charged with rape has had his case mentioned in a Brisbane court. The player in question will be sacked by his club after being involved in some previous off-field incidents. The NRL player has been stood down and it is understood the parties are in the process of dismissal following a number of breaches of the club’s code of conduct

Who's gonna win...
> TC in a round of golf against Uncle Nick OR
> Uncle Wayne's "I'll fix ya" rehab clinic somewhere in Redcliffe... or the Sunny Coast...

Is there any way this thread could return to what its title pertains ?

could we set up a ‘General Broncos 2023 discussion’ thread for chat unrelated to rumours and signing?

I've wanted that for a long time. TBF, you're lucky they're actually talking about the Broncos in this thread and not how shit of a poster someone is.

That escalated alarmingly - that's the first time I've heard rape mentioned, unless I missed something along the way.

Not shocked they'd be working on dumping him, to be honest.

Not putting much credibility in this. Sounds like a guess.

Brent Read & David Riccio:

"Farnworth and Flegler have both spoken openly about their desire to remain in Brisbane but that hasn’t stopped rival clubs asking the question of the pair. Both are believed to be in the sights of the Dolphins while Manly have tabled a monster deal for the Queensland State of Origin forward. Brisbane have a fight on their hands to keep both."
"Likely outcome: Flegler stays but Farnworth goes"

I don't think we will lose either.
From the wording, it's lazy journalism, I think. Part of the Market Watch column that runs across the News LTD press. Given that Badel made a fuss about Herbie already giving a verbal agreement (or something like that), you'd think Read could've at least called Badel, and moved that story forward. Even just acknowledge it as a rumour. Pretty annoying, tbh, that he's filed this crap.

Official quote from The: "We are not here to cannibalize the existing Qld teams"

Yeah seems legit

That sums up 90% of NRL articles, so no difference to the norm.
Read and Badel are very different reporters.

Read is good for opinion pieces: whether you agree with his opinion or not. For instance, he wrote a long piece on why the club had to sack Payne last year. Never happened, I didn't agree with it, but it was well reasoned. His record on gossip is lean, and not so hot. I don't think he bothered to dig into the Herbie story.

Badel rarely injects opinion. He's just not that interesting. He can lean into some bias, sure, but mostly his stuff is trying to milk something newsworthy out of the soul-destroying press conferences the Broncos trot out. Both parties look like they're only doing it out of obligation. Badel files his piece - which is rarely worth reading - and the subs try to spin some excitement out of it. Readers get confused that the story is oversold by the headline and blame Badel. Rinse and repeat.

We're really only interested in Broncos gossip, which by its nature is unreliable. The club spins against the reporters who are spinning against their spinning. I've found Badel to be usually directionaly accurate, but rarely precise. The more confident he is the more likely it pans out. He came across as very confident in that Herbie piece but it was definitely presented as not to be banked quite yet. That's fine, we treated it as a rumour. I'm not writing him off yet.

Dobbo, on the other hand: take no notice of how confident he is. He's always got the inside word. And it's quite often wrong. Entertainment value only.
