Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

"Off The Cuff" isn't a halfback's job, that's for the #6. The gloss seems to be wearing off on the Roosters' slick operation. But also, **** having a player's uncles looking over your shoulder, antagonising for the team to play a certain way that suits their nephew. As much as the Broncos seemingly fucked up his signing, it was obvious to me that the uncles were going to be interfering and unwelcome baggage, and this is turning out to be the case.

I thought similar .
Broncos have X factor / off the cuff already . Need an organiser with a long right boot .

Did you ever watch Allan Langer?

The interchange was much more limited in those days.
Fatigued forwards late each half meant more opportunities for off the cuff . More inter changes , higher fitness levels , and better structured defence has changed the #7s role .

Langer is from another era, in a team that could risk balls-out attack because they had so much strike.

Thurston is a future immortal who managed to play both a 6 and a 7's game, he was never simply a traditional halfback.

There are no current halves in the NRL that are even close to those two, and Walker is certainly not in the same conversation. He's not in a position to demand a team changes their structure in order to appease him. While you could argue that a team should play to its players strengths, they have some far more potent players in Tedesco & Manu that are going to be better with the ball in hand in "off-the-cuff" situations. Those players need someone to create those opportunities and feed them the ball, at the moment it's not happening and that's what they need in a halfback.

Be interesting to see when Koalapoo get his debut.

Punchable isn't it?

I don't know how on the back of a Weilder report with no quotes we are now having Walker out the door.

If Walker is unhappy with the coaching of Cronk- which he is allowed to be then that's between them and has to be sorted out. It certainly doesn't equal leaving.

Walker needs to take the feedback of Keary, Robinson and Cronk and go back and apply it against the Dragons on Sunday.

Lots of players have had a stint in Cup, Hunt, Keary, Slater, Hannant, Lattrel and Manu have all been dropped. If you go back and do the right thing it's two weeks. Slater was one week for the Bears in 2006.

I absolutely love that the Roosters are getting smashed a bit in the media this year, the 'cult' seems to be having a few issues this year and I just hope there are more and more issues to come.

Prediction: one day you will come out of the closet as the Roosters' number 1 fan.

Bring Karmichael Hunt in for Boyd in the preseason.
I would make room for Thorn, even on a casual basis, if he's out of work.
My only fear is the pair of them might romanticize a stint in rugby.

Think you're massively underestimating the role Hunt and Hodges are doing with Souths. They have the ear of the best young Broncos every week. They have clearly improved them since 22. I can see them coaching U19 Origin and doing that sort of role for a long time, they're happy and doing well. They can serve the Broncos well coaching Cup.

Hunt is in constant contact with Kevvie and the Broncos and because he did Meninga last year he could have these guys for 50 games by the time they play NRL.

That's valuable.

We'd all love to see him leave the Roosters but it's basically what all the good coaches do when their young hyped up stars get ahead of themselves.

Anyone heard we are interested in Fletcher Baker?
Mate of mine reckons it was buried in a CM article talking about signings and rumours.
It was in the Michael Carayannis & Brent Read Sports Confidential section.

The report is the Roosters have a number of players off-contract and Brisbane have entered the race for Fletcher Baker. They're just one of several clubs chasing his signature.

It wouldn't be a bad get for the Broncos. Of course if the Va'a brothers got homesick, that would be my preference but I don't think that's on the cards.

I guess, but his formal job is to coach the Magpies, who only have a few of the baby Broncos. The same with U19 etc.

What role is Hodges at Logan?

PVL:

“Payne Haas is a great player and it’s important to keep all our players. I’m not worried about us losing players. If Hamish McLennan is looking for free publicity, we’re not going to entertain it. His sport isn’t doing very well so he tries to use our sport to publicise them. I won’t be falling into that trap."“If rugby union isn’t good enough to gain its own publicity, don’t use rugby league. He is using our product because rugby union can’t generate their own news. Maybe if their game was more interesting, they would have some publicity.”
Well that's gotta be the first time anyone affiliated with the NSWRL has ever said anything positive about anything related to the Broncos... even if it is just to have a dig at Union.
