Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

What’s going on with ikin? Kevvie leaks again?
The story is the club had to hold meetings between Ikin and Walters to smooth things over between them and that Walters has left Ikin out and Ikin has been "frozen" out of key decisions this season.

The article also says that Walters reports to Donaghy, not Ikin, so Ikin isn't Walter's boss but on the same level.

It then goes on to say Ikin was sitting with the team last year but this year he's been watching games from public seats and Walters "communicated" many important matters to his brother Steve instead of Ikin.

Ikin had no input in the Walters extension.

It then ends with saying now that Steve Walters is gone, Ikin will have a bigger role in the team next year.

In the end I think that's an overall positive :)

Someone should tell Kev to stop being so insecure. I don’t know if it was Ikin, but the club started making better decisions after he got hired. We lost our way in the back end of the season. Still areas that need improving, but I’m thinking maybe Kev has the blinkers on now and he won’t be open to viewing things from different perspectives. Hopefully this doesn’t result in him continuing to pick underperforming players etc.

What was the reasoning behind dropping Mam for the final game of the season? Alongside Cobbo, he’s the future of the club.. Gotta treat him right. Surely he wasn’t the one that whinged to the media about Kev raising his voice? Do we know who that was?

This fiasco by Kev could well tell his dump & silly decisions through out the season.
In every workplace, a group of employees(players)report to Manager(coach) & the Manager reports to Program Head(GM of Football) & the Program Head reports to CEO.
How the **** can a Manager bypass Program Head & directly go to CEO? Kev is out of his depth & the old boys can go stuff themselves. This is diabolical & beyond madness from Kev.

Everyone in the real world knows that Ikin is the man with brains and he’s more than capable of setting up standards at the club but Kev can’t see it.

No just Broncos but if Ikin goes to Titans/Warriors/Tigers, he will set standards and changes at those club’s are guaranteed. Can Kev do the same? I highly doubt he would even get a gig at other clubs.

Just lean on Ikins shoulders & learn how to be smart, astute & most of all, how to “manage” things. If you don’t want to do these, just walk out the door today mate. Dear o dear!

I hope that article is fake news, because if it isn’t then Kev comes off as being a Des like control freak. However, unlike Des he isn’t a premiership winning coach with over a decade of experience taking teams to the top.

I supervise at work and if people have issues get told bypass myself and my boss and go straight to the big boss because people hold agendas and have ulterior motives

Hierarchy gets ignored all the time and I imagine it's no different here

And if said issues don't get sorted in a team environment where everyone needs to pull in the same direction, then one of the two will be walking. If push comes to shove, my money is on Ikin holding his position over Kev holding his.

I can't read the Courier article but the Fox one doesn't paint Kev in a good light. “The NRL head coach is the hub of a football department. In my 20 years of working at successful football clubs like the Broncos, Storm and even Canberra when I won a premiership there, the coach, CEO and chairman carry the load of the club.” Sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder about the Ikin appointment perhaps? The difference, Kev, is the Broncos had Wayne; Storm had Bellyache; and Raiders have Sticky. Now one of these things is not like the other, but you are not like any of those three seasoned coaches either in personality or experience.

DD has a big job on his hands by the sounds of it. Imagine the fallout from the old boys if this goes sour and Kev gets booted, we will never hear the end of it - despite Ikin himself also being an old boy. Is it possible Siebold had the right idea (but the wrong execution) with trying to leave the past of the club in the past?

I hate this. What a fucking mess.

I am really sorry for you and your boss at the same time, I will not say the same for your big boss. The culture your big boss setting up at your workplace is to deemed to catch-up at some stage that is set for a failure. It’s not healthy at all. The reason you & your boss roles exist at your workplace is for a reason and no one should bypass them.
Please note that I am NOT taking a piss at you but expressing my genuine concern’s about the culture at your workplace. I don’t intend to cross the line here.

Don’t worry yourself. The way I see it is giving those people enough rope to hang themselves with, even if I take no direct action

They get their comeuppance sooner or later

In terms of clubman, and how to stay fit Macca would make a great role model. In terms of hooking skills I think we’d be looking at diminishing returns there.

Macca plays twenty, Paix on for forty or fifty, Macca back to close it out? Not ideal, but I don't hate it.

Rumour.

Macca on his way back at minimum $ as a mentor for Mozer.

It's probably shit but on the other hand right in our wheel house kinda stupid.
Meh signing, but I guess if everyone is injured then at least we know we have someone that can come in and can play 80mins if needed.

Sounds like a safety net signing, which is probably what we need from a 3rd/4th string hooker

This is madness for mine. What the heck is that Matt Balin guy even doing at the club if not brought in to aid in “hooking” department?
Even when not playing, our club doesn’t run out of gossips/childish/foolish things happening around.
FFS DD, get the the club under control mate!

Plenty of people over the years have been ordinary players but great teachers. Hell some have even been great coaches.

Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things. Macca modelled his game off Cam Smith, but he didn’t have the same ability as him. However he would have learnt a lot watching Smith, so if he can take what he learnt and mentor Mozer with that, we should get a great return as Mozer does have the ability to take what he learns and apply that on the field.

Question marks over whether he can mentor players, but we’ll find out I guess.
