I'm sure you guys have since this was discussed he has been sent for a shoulder re-construction (was obviously paying with a busted shoulder since Origin 1) but if not then even if we take that information away he made the most tackles out of any centre this season (with an 84 percent efficiency rate), made a lot of try savers and contained some of the most damaging opposition he faced. Sure his positing sometimes and shooting out brings it down a little bit but him being a bad defender is just a ridiculous narrative at this point.

Bloke busted his ass (and shoulder) this year in defence and I only recall Olam directly beating him 1 on 1 to score a try all season.

Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things. Macca modelled his game off Cam Smith, but he didn’t have the same ability as him. However he would have learnt a lot watching Smith, so if he can take what he learnt and mentor Mozer with that, we should get a great return.

Question marks over whether he can mentor players, but we’ll find out I guess.

Not from being part of the run on side.......fingers crossed.

Matt Ballin is a coach, not part of the recruiting team

Scanlon is the head of recruitment and with Ikin and Kevvie having input into the recruiting decisions (especially for the NRL team).

but i'm sure you'll absolve two of those three from blame if this "rumour" becomes a reality

No, I am not talking about Matt being in recruiting at all. Rather, I am questioning Matt Balin’s role at the club.
I’m of the opinion that he was brought in last year with the sole purpose of mentoring/nurturing our 9’s. Was he not?
If so, why do we need another mentor in Macca to do the same job that Matt’s been doing?
OR
Did I get my facts wrong about Matt’s role at the club?
 
Re macca, he still has a year left on his deal at the dragons so they would need to subsidize his salary for next year (they were trying to get him to retire). Bit of revenge for us paying that hack Bird to play for them.

Its not his actually tackling thats the issue imo, its his positioning. Tbf, most players know how to tackle, but quite a few arent smart defenders.

Looks like he doesn't trust the system or maybe those around him then goes rogue.
Shooting out of the line is fine but you have to complete if you do. Staggs sees it too late and picks exactly the wrong time to do it.

I think the problem as a whole is is we dont really defend as a unit as a team.
 
Our hooking stocks are so cooked that I believe it. I’d unironically prefer Billy starting if Macca was the alternate option. There’s got to be another player available, surely.
