Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Good decision from the Dragons.

Hunt coming here has the potential to destabilise things.
I can't tell the difference between a negotiation tactic (walking away from the table) and digging their heels in (like we did with Haas), but my hunch is the former. He's still coming, I reckon.

I'm not saying either situation is right but how do the dragons think this ends well for them? The marquee player says he wants out and they say no you'll stay two more years. Do you really want a bloke who's heart isn't in it running your team the next two years?

I think they realize forcing Hunt to stay for the next two years is not going to end well for them, but they're just playing hardball to get a better deal for themselves.

The 500k to Dragons as a transfer fee won't do much, Dragons are well off and it won't make their fans happy.
Has something changed we don't know about because they haven't been able to sack a coach in like 10 years earlier due to payout issues and them not having enough money to pay a coach out mid contract.

Official statements

Dragons CEO Ryan Webb:
“The club listened to Ben’s concerns and is committed to working with him throughout the remainder of his playing contract as both Ben and the club share a common goal of winning football games and building a successful football club."

Ben Hunt:

“I appreciated the open and honest discussion and will continue to work alongside the club and now focus on our game against the Sharks this Thursday night.”

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Because, I can't see us giving up too much to get Hunt for only 4 months. And the Titans will hoping we get Hunt out of his contract so they don't have to offer the Dragons anything.

Slothfield says the Dragons should ask for Verrills or Campbell from the Titans and one of our many young stars as compensation for releasing Hunt. Lol

the dragons lose out on their cap space moving forward for every week that they delay the inevitable. They aren’t going anywhere this year and Hunt ain’t sticking around from next year onwards.

Be interesting to see what the RLPA say on this matter. Lets see if they really do have some power and swing

I think it’s over. The statement from Hunt seems to have put it to bed, at least until the end of the season I think.
Surely they can do that even if they release him to us on a 'loan' (Harry Grant style) until the end of the year. He'll still be contracted to them from next year onwards. I reckon they're delusional enough to think that they can make him honour his entire contract.
