Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Can't remember Tino asking for an immediate release, cause he wanted an upgraded contract. (which had already been upgraded)
You mean like activating a shitty clause mid season to immediately become a free agent while being club captain?

Only 27 games scoring 7 tries & winning a Grand Final

Winning the Storms rookie of the year in 2020
He didn't sign with the Titans as any of those things. He signed for the Titans in 2019 after playing 5 first grade games. 2020 is when he won the premiership and played origin.

He literally went to the highest bidder a few weeks after cracking first grade.

Hasn't been activated YET.

He has informed the Titans he "intends" to activate it. he can't test the market without doing that

so while the Titans are fighting for the top 8, Tino is soliciting for other offers

His club also knifed his coach in the back knowing full well he had the clause there with no prior warning. I’m not saying Tino is in the right here either but this is the second year in a row Payne has pulled this while the club is flying.

would it have been better that string the club along for the next 4 months all the while knowing that he was planning to test the market. because realistically that was the alternative.

and yes i have no doubt that his manager would know what other NRL clubs have "claimed" they will offer him, but there is a good chance those clubs are telling them that hoping we raise our offer and **** our salary cap ... that tactic is much riskier if those same clubs need to put in concrete offers in front of Payne (because if he takes offers from clubs using that tactic, they'd **** their own cap)

and finally, it gives Payne piece of mind knowing he's gotten a fair offer from us. he's pretty much spent his NRL and pre-NRL careers with just the information of what we value him for, he's never gone to market before. once he see's that the only clubs likely to offer him more than the $1 million - $1.1 million that we are are the likes of the Tigpies and Bulldogs ... we'll get back a settled Payne Haas, which only spells danger for the competition.

and again, if we have issues with Payne testing the market, then we should have issues with Tino do the same thing and strike him from our list. we should also probably take issues with the way the club forced out Lodge and TPJ. sport is a multi-million dollar business these days. and anyone of us if we were in Payne's shoes would have our manager doing the exact same thing (regardless of what they say on here or how much they love the club)

Whatever the equivalent of a million is under the old cap, we can't pay him that. I have no doubt he will be looking for it.
Salary cap has gone up 3 Mil since 2022, so 32.7%(9.118 to 12.1)

but also keep in mind the min wage has gone up too, overall I think it's like a 20-24% gain on contract values for the top end.

1.2 mil would be like paying high 900k, 1.1 being about what he is on now.

I'm keen to see the mental gymnastics on justifying going after Tino who is doing the same thing, after the Titans took a huge bet to sign him on huge money before he played first grade and made him captain.

We took a huge risk on Payne as well tbf, he got paid massive overs and got a lot of perks he didnt deserve before he even played first grade and he's been nothing but a **** until this year. Said it before and i'll stand by it, a lesser player would have been sacked by us by now. As much as he was probably underpaid this year and last year, in his first few years he was on more money than he should have been as well.

The situation right now though is they are just both exercising their rights under their contracts. I'm not a fan tbh of these players having clauses in their contracts to play for a particular coach. Paynes just got a shitty sense of timing, and he's appears to be dumb enough to believe his management are smart operators. I think its pretty shitty what they are both doing tbh, but if we are at risk of losing Payne then Tino is just an obvious target right now.

We paid overs to be real for 2018, but he returned it completely in 2019 onwards.

but he is a basket case when it comes to the contracts, like Suallii, but it should be noted we have paid him less then what Tino has been on the entire time he has been at Titans, there isn't much upside anymore paying overs for potential and hoping for a bargain if they turn good.

I think he should have actually just kept it too himself until after the finals tbh. As much as people dont like it, Paynes not doing much wrong. I think people are more just shitty with how he is doing things rather than what he's doing. Its just disruptive.

2017, 2018, 2019 he was payed way over his market value. I reckon 2020 and 2021 he was probably around his value and after that i think he was being payed below his value.

I've mentioned it on here though before, i think he gets bad advice and always has even before these clowns he has gone in with now. I saw first hand the carry on by his family and himself ( and tbf, i think he was pushed into it more from family members ) about what free car he was going to be given because he didnt like what he got. And also tbf to him, he wasnt the only one who was acting like a cockhead about that either.

Tino at the Gold Coast got a ridiculous salary based on his potential. I dont think any other club at the time would have gone all in on him like the GC did. We see plenty of players payed overs based on potential who dont live up to it like Payne and Tino have. But with both of them something doesnt sit quite right with me. Their actions are that of players who put themselves before the club. Even though i get why they do it, i'm still not a fan of it. Maybe thats why i prefer Carrigan both as a person and as a player. You know where you stand with him. If he says something, you can take it to the bank thats what he is going to do.

sorry but what?

He didn't even get the upgrade until 2021 from memory, he was at around 650k till then, and for 2019 onwards was a NSW/Kangaroos middle, that's very good value, he didn't even sign that contract till just before his debut in early 2018, so I'm unclear on his 2017 contract.

Keep in mind Tino is on 1 mil this season 1.1 for next season and he also had that terrible clause in linked to the coach, it's easy to forget that because Titans don't have the magnifying glass on them like us.

he definitely has a money hungry family to feed, his mum was driving an AMG merc worth well over 150k in that crash late last year so you know what is driving it, but the reality is he hasn't exactly been over paid for us since 2019.

What he has been poorly advised on, is trying to go the hard route with contracts which inturn makes him unattractive for the 3rd party's which makes it even harder for him to get the money he wants.

I don't have a problem with Payne testing the market.

I have an issue with the timing & the complete BS from his camp.
