Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Last year people also complained that Jensen, hosking and brenko were boring/not great pick ups, but each of them were solid, played above their pay grade and did the job asked of them.
Thought most were pretty keen on Jensen, no one knew who Hoskings was and he was only a train and trial, and Brenko was exactly as good as people expected him to be - which was boring/not great.

The Madden signing isn’t bad in isolation. He has 2 years to show signs of life. He could be the tigers version of Dearden I guess.

It's odd that Jock would leave the Tigers if they couldn't guarantee him 7, to take up a depth position at the Broncos.

Kevvie's agent, Chris Orr said this last month:

“Jock would certainly consider a move to Queensland. He just needs a team to give him the No.7 jersey. Now whether that’s going to be the Wests Tigers in due course or someone else, he needs a chance to be the seven and run a team. That’s what he wants to do."
“He was a halfback for the Australian Schoolboys with Matt Burton in the halves. He was the NSW under-20s halfback, he was a premiership halfback in the lower grades. He has gotten some opportunities at five-eighth with the Wests Tigers but he would love a chance to be a No.7 in the NRL."
“Do the Tigers see him as a fill-in at halfback or do they see him as the long-term solution at No.7? If that’s not the case, then Jock will be looking at his options to further his NRL career.”

Jensen got largely the same response from many; "he could not even make the cowboys side" (which came 15th that year).

It was during trials that the majority of people saw that he was actually pretty good.

If you honestly think that about Jensen you need to re-read those threads. The responses ranged from “who?” To outrage at such a ridiculous signing of a spud that can’t even make a woeful Cowboys team.

Revisionist history at its finest.

It was reported that the Panthers were the favourites to sign him and that's where he was likely heading, but he never actually signed.
Righto. Did the Panthers backed out as they prioritized their cap with the layers they have or did they see something in Jock we didn’t hence backed out? Only time will tell if the latter I suppose?
Somewhere somehow, I’ve faith in Ikin in this signing.

Madden and Clifford would be great back ups. Let them duke it out to be Reynolds' heir.
Just out of curiosity, the 2nd name - is it a wishful thinking or did we also signed Clifford?
I for one, reckon in couple of years, Walsh would transition to 6, Mam to 7 & Cobbo to 1.

my guess is it was Madden to chose against going to the Panthers.

Cleary/Luai have 10+ years left in the game.

ARey 2-3 years left. getting mentored by ARey (not to mention Alfie and Kevvie) puts him in a prime position to take the halfback role when ARey retires.

Not my intention. I know myself and pretty sure Wolfe amongst others, maybe sproj? all said it was surprising that he hasn’t had more of a first grade career given his stats and ability. My only concern was if there was an attitude or personality problem at play which I think Wolfie said something along the lines of he just didn’t apply himself as much as required or something. Seemed like the perfect money ball signing.

I must not have realised how opposed people were.

If that’s the thinking from young lad, I would say he’s smart. Hopefully, he comes here with firm determination to hone those footy smarts under Adam for the next 2 years and becomes our long term 7 🤞.

Pretty happy with it tbh 22yo half for two years lines up for the end of areys contract gives you 12 months to see how he progresses in the broncos system as a potential replacement wouldnt be shocked if there was another signing in the halves similar to this for around the same time length.
A few W.Tigers fans are saying they see him more as a no.9 than they do a half…

I had a bit of spare time today so I went back skimmed through the games Madden played in the halves rather than off the bench. There actually is a bit of potential there so I’ll put my hand up and say I’ve got that one wrong. 2 years to develop and learn from Adam and he could be decent.

Faith in Ikin restored.

How does he compare with Croft?

couple of good touches from the young fella if nobody got to watch this game.

He's had some good touches in the NRL. He's got a nice short ball and knows how to create numbers on the edge. He's one of the better depth options we've signed in a while. I don't have any issue with the signing.

I wonder if learning from Reyno is the reason why he came.

It’s definitely a more enterprising signing than the kHunts, T Roberts, Gambles, Walters, and Kellys of recent years.

Paying closer attention to tigers games it also looks like Tamau still has a little left in the tank. Could see him doing a good version of what Ryan James was meant to do this season. 20 minute stints off the bench, be a leader of the young forwards.

The reason you mentioned with Cleary and the grub is exactly why they lost Katoa as well. Any good young half at Penrith know they are getting probably at a minimum 7 or 8 years from those two and as you said, more likely 10+ years. You might get a young half going their for 12 months to learn for a while, but thats about it.
