Smoothy is a good signing. The kind of guy you should sign instead of Wlaters. He’s not a marque hooker by any means but he’s solid depth with room to improve. Nice buy
Considering the circumstances.

From the Colts Grand Final you could have Graham at Dolphins, Smoothy at Broncos and Simpkins at Tigers. Surely no Colts GF has produced three NRL hookers.

Solid, i like.

Now to the assistants. Is it confirmed who is locked in for 23?

I don't see any other position than 14 for Tesi, unfortunately. I genuinely think he's capable of killing it there if he accepts his limitations and strengthens his defence. I would love to see him given a go. If he wants to be part of a first grade team.
What makes you think Tesi would be useful at 14?

If our Hooker could play 80 or close too with Kobe filling in at 9 for 10 mins if needed, having a player like Tesi on the bench would be useful.
You wouldn't have Tesi there to play 9 but to be a impact game breaking player. Put him in game and get him to follow fhe ball and be a threat all over the field when the opposition is tired. Defence would need to improve though. It's also a genuine utility, it's cover for positions 1-7 without putting Capewell in the centres.
If Smoothy can play 80 or close too having Paix/Walters on the bench is pointless unless they bring something different from the starting hooker which so far neither has shown they do and are game breakers.

Only thing Tesi is going to be breaking is our hearts when he loses EVERY GAME EVER.

So you want him defending in the middle? Is he going to be playing 13?

Paix is a very different hooker to Smoothy. He is a good runner of the ball and scores a lot of tries. He is good off the bench. I’m not sure exactly what a game breaker is but if you watch Q Cup Paix has won his side plenty of games.

I don’t get where this narrative that Paix is essentially average is coming from. I think a number of posters are forgetting how good he was going off the bench before his knee injury. He was tracking very well. Then again, I guess it isn’t that surprising people have forgotten, the coach seemed to as well.

Exactly. I also think a lot of people have no idea how dominate he was at stages in Cup.

He’s not Harry Grant but he’s definitely the hooker at our club and worth seeing how he evolves over the next 2 years or so

i like paix but dominate sounds like a stretch , 1910 mentioned he wasn't knocking the door down to get another shot. I think his form dipped pretty hard so hopefully he can have a strong offseason because we've put a bit of time into him

No he was dominant. In the back end of 21, he was on fire. Post-injury he struggled but the last two or three rounds this year, he sparked the Magpies to great performances and wins. This was a side that lost almost every game / was smashed all year

Far from a challenging opponent but Cobbo looked great at left centre against PNG tonight. I think that’s his position long term.

Would love to see him and Herbie swap next season. Herbie is solid under the highball too. Would take that pressure of Selwyn as his hands went a bit shit toward the end

Personally, I would give him another year on the wing before moving him in-field, I don’t think his fitness is quite there yet.

In saying that, if the club saw him more as a centre than a fullback, it’s probably better in the long run to throw him in at centre now. I think the club are eyeing ‘24 as their premiership window.

they won 1 from their last 16 didn't they ? And not to dis you sproj but if 1910 says he didn't warrant a recall then he didn't.

Fair enough too. Paix got back to being Paix quite late in the season obviously and the injury really derailed a large chunk of ‘22 sadly.

All I’m saying is, a fully fit Paix is a more than good enough 9. He’s underrated on here.

completely agree i really hope he can get some consistency on the field, he could be a similar 9 to ben hunt imo
