Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2024

You Walker's manager? There would be zero basis for this rumour. He isn't coming to us for less than he would get a the Chickens. The Cows have jack all money.
About 200k less. Cost of living in Sydney extortionate compared to Qld and no I am not his manager but close to family member so passed on what I was told yesterday

We need a bit of roster refresh to get some depth and a few positional changes to get some better balance in the squad. The below list is a reasonable, conservative, and realistic approach. However, if I'm being honest, there are some bigger changes I would like to make to the roster, which would include letting a few players go.

1. Walsh
2. Recruit a big, powerful, fast winger that is safe under the high ball.
3. Cobbo
4. Mariner/recruit an experienced, reliable centre
5. Arthurs
6. Mam
7. Reynolds
8. Jensen
9. Walters/Smoothy
10. Haas
11. Riki
12. Staggs
13. Carrigan

14. Mozer
15. Piakura/
16. Willison
17. Taupau/Te Kura
18. Hetherington
19. Oates
20. Smoothy/Walters

Recruitment goals (in no particular order):
1. Backup fullback: Move Sailor on and get someone better.
2. Backup wingers/centres: Need at least 2 specialist wingers and 2 specialist centres.
3. Backup halves: The reality is that we need a starting quality halfback to take over from Reynolds. Madden should realistically be the second or third choice halves option and not the first choice to fill in for Reynolds and Mam.
4. Backup backrower: Need a couple of decent backup backrowers who aren't a complete liability when called upon.
5. Backup props: Need a couple of experienced, no-nonsense props.

Players let go:
Baker, Sailor, Hunt, Gosiewski

I wouldnt mind looking at Corey Horsburgh ... i feel like he could fill that flegler hole quite nicely (currently suspended though haha)

He wouldn't be any cheaper than Flegler, I wouldn't imagine.

If at all he intends to move or Stuart moves him, i reckon having his roots at ‘The Rejects’, they have a good chance in getting him than us.

Now, if we intend to bring in another red head alone, I don’t know if there are any Qld based redheads that wants to play for us.

Maybe we could make a group deal for Sam Walker and his dad and uncle.
They can be Assistant's.

Worth the question.

How can Redcliffe keep affording more players as well? They seem to buy every decent player off contract.

They probably have a bit to play with. Bromwich, Aitken, Wallace, Milford will all be off the books. Wouldnt give them heaps though i wouldnt think.

They did spend a lot of their cap on players just about to retire like Bromwich x2, Kaufusi, Nicholls etc. They are effectively replacing their overinflated contracts with younger players. And when you look at their side, who are their real marquee men? The Hammer, Flegler, Herbie, Bromwich & Kaufusi would all be on decent coin but thats about it.

Katoa is the most highly rated young half since Cleary, he wouldn't be on a pittance. Then their hooker was highly sought after and they've just extended him. Gilbert would be on a lot as well and they've recently extended Bostock. They've also got that bloke from the Cows coming in who had a bunch of teams after him. That's quite a few players.

They may have Flegler off the books if his injury doesn’t clear up. That would give them another $800k

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Living in the Eastern suburbs makes it harder, too. $2m for a nice but small apartment, with one tiny car park.

I understand he's really good mates with Ezra too.

Interesting about Ezra... I thought there was something a little bit back that Sam Walker was offside with a lot of the Qld guys like Hammer, Walsh and different people because he snitched about something in one of the junior rep camps
