āI think I could do both boxing and league. I spar twice a week and Iāve played footy since I was four years old, both codes, rugby league and rugby union. Thereās great coaching at Souths Logan with Karmichael Hunt. I was lucky enough to play some games for them before the Broncos bosses kicked me out in 2021. I have a lot of respect for Karmichael and Justin Hodges. āHodgoā was a great competitor so I will probably go back to Souths Logan, hopefully get some wins, and then after that Iāll look to play some footy for the Broncos in the NRL.ā

Seems to be a common theme.
I've always liked TPJ as a player (when he can be bothered), but after his comments last year about how he's never loved rugby league, I've got big doubts over his commitment and willingness to do the hard yards.

Just shows the obvious difference in terms of the image one can create to the media and the true image that he creates with his peers.
Some of the things he says don't correlate at all to how he's always finding himself on the outer.
He needs to drop this media nice guy persona if he wants to make it in boxing, nobody believes he's actually a nice guy. If you're a prick you may as well turn it up and be a real prick, people might pay to see him get flogged then.

This attitude is one of the things that pisses me off. The flippant attitude that yeah after some Qcup I will be right to play for the broncos.
Noone walks into the broncos team, especially toxic people with no passion for the game.
I will be really disappointed if he ends up in a broncos jersey again.

Gallen repeated it with less mouth and better boxing, surprising and forcing out respect from many, myself included.

Badel reports the Broncos are in extension talks with Walsh, and he's "set to" become the highest-paid player in Broncos history with a 150% pay rise ( $1.1 million). He's been saying this for months, so it's hard to say what's changed.

"Broncos under pressure to keep 1 million dollar man cobbo".... then ".....mozer/coby black... then "...haas"...
Then the cycle repeats! Weird no other club, eg clubs who haven't won a spoon in the past 4 years, aren't under such pressure. Also weird the media goes on about panthers "winning despite the turnover" yet we have had more turnover then them due to salary cap pressure despite only 1 gf vs 4 in a row... the salary cap is media driven and that's why it stays. Ridiculous system, that's why we are the only sport in the world who does it this way!

It was actually as much a criticism on the salary cap as it was the media's inability to investigate and provide new and informative articles to read but, seen as you ask...
I would find something with substance to report on.
But I do concede the journos in this country are just trying to keep their jobs by meeting certain KPIs and are more a victim of their environment rather then being bad journos in and of itself (eg like how rats caused the black death/plague).
So from a more global point of view...
Firstly, I think the worst thing the nrl has done in recent years is get rid of/hugely decrease their digital media. It not only gave quality content, but it gave content that wasn't fear mongering to get clicks. This also led to improved content externally as the public had higher expectations.
From a general media point of view I'd hope there is one day some competition for Rupert (before he sadly passes), which can be helped along by improved internet for streaming, and dozens of other dodgy decisions getting reversed by the government that helped Rupert monopolies the media market in this country.
Advertisers should also realise that whilst sensationalism bs does get clicks, I'd say it is highly likely more than 90% of people click out of it once they read the 1st few lines and realise that is exactly what it is, meaning they don't actually see or read most of the advertisements.
In conclusion, the journalists are doing a great job in doing what they are meant to do, it's just that what they're meant to do has nothing to do with being a quality journalist.
Investigate, report, minimise bias.

I guess I see it differently. The sports section is gossip rag to me. A bit of fluff, a bit of drama, something to keep the soap opera going. Like this thread.
Some journalists, like Dobbo, thrive off being the first with inside information. Some, like Dobbo, are terribly unreliable, but occasionally do uncover something new and juicy, and you keep tuning in.
The salary cap is a necessary evil, that punishes success. It's a work in progress, which isn't completely broken, but it could certainly use some tinkering. We will inevitably lose some players we want to keep. We have too many "guns."
