Because we're not allowed to ... Simple as that. The NRL don't allow you to sack a player then immediately re-sign them on a lower contract.

We either stick by him, and hope he can make it back to his best (which IMO he will) ... Which is bloody good and certainly worth 800k. I believe if he is suspended long term (for off field incidents) there are done salary cap relief options available to the club

Or we sack him and allow another club to pick him up (which we will certainly regret IMO)

A big part of this is if someone close to him like Walshy says to pull your head in and gives him some hard love.
Madge will also be good for this situation he'll probably act more like a father figure where as Kev and Alf would of been more like the fun uncles.

If Mam can bounce back from this, I could imagine him and Walsh getting even tighter and when they are on, there is no team in the league that can contain them.

If we keep him though which sounds likely, fans will have to be patient and Mam will have to accept the vitriol that will come his way.

Then don't re-sign him immediately.

If he decides to leave for another club then so be it.

He should be made to earn his position as a Bronco.

There are a lot of talented halves coming through the grades at the moment.. We would not have trouble replacing Mam.. He doesn't actually contribute much.

Certainly a massive gamble from a squad standpoint as well, if we keep him and he cops a significant ban for next year, we'll need to carry him on the cap and somehow replace him in the team and then gamble on him sorting his shit out and repaying the faith.

Honestly even if the NRL ban isn't that long he clearly has things he needs to sort out away from the game, he probably needs 12 months out of the game to sort his shit out properly.

I think it will come back to length of ban and if we are going to have to carry the contract under the cap while he sits in the sideline.
