I seen Brandon Smith is looking for a new home. If we could offload some players and Ben Hunt doesn't want to come back, then Smith would be a handy pick-up.
He probably would be a great pick up for a lot of teams... and potentially could fit here as well... although first point of call is that he doesn't pass the no dickheads policy, but he was at the storm system for a long time and you have to have a hard training mindset to survive there.
Mozer is coming through so we could literally run the storm setup they had with Cheese starting before Harry came on to play out the game.
The question would be how he fits in with all the middles though and also Patty being the lock.
BSmith isn't a ball playing lock, but Patty could still do it from prop, so not the end of the world... but then we need to find time in the rotation to fit in Haas, Patty, Willison and BSmith... which might mean over investing in middle forwards, but BSmith does provide a lot of versatility that his cap space isn't purely middle forward.
BSmith would basically end up covering the current squad roles from Kobe, Smoothy/Paix (partially Billy because he also covers halves)... potentially Jensen gets covered, because Patty is then playing mostly prop. We would be keeping some of those players as depth, but versatility from BSmith means you don't need to invest as heavily in some of those positions, because he's there to cover them directly or indirectly.
It would depend on what Madge is looking for out of the middle forwards rotation though.
In Origin last series he was using a mobile small middle with McInness first (basically a BSmith clone) and Connor Watson (who is also not a ball playing lock)... he also used Reece Robson... so he might be shifting his mindset towards that style of middle.
I think ultimately it would be a no from me, because I think he wants to be a hooker more than a lock and we want to invest in Mozer... so he probably doesn't fit here well enough and we can probably better invest in Kobe and Smoothy to cover a Bsmith role.
