Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Letting Walsh go, and then being unable to coach Dearden were early red flags. Hard to say to what extent Farnworth was a fuckup or whether his positional aspirations and market value led to him leaving. Releasing Capewell early while not having a replacement ready was braindead. Having to extend Reynold because he hadn't groomed a first class successor was a fuckup. As was extending Rogers, Paix, etc. The cards stacked up against Kevvie in the end. Losing all his assistants wasn't a good sign either.
There's plenty of valid reasons to go after Walters, but judging a coach based on losing quality players is misleading.

I can agree to an extent on flip flopping on Dearden ahead of Round 1 2021, I disagree on Walsh. That had nothing to do with Kev's opinion on Walsh and had more to do with the situation he inherited. In fact, doing right by Walsh and the Warriors ultimately paid dividends.

I don't know what happened behind the scenes with Walsh, but I remember being deeply unimpressed with what came out of Walters' mouth at the time. Even at that time, as young as he was, it was obvious he was what we needed back there. Remember how long we had to endure shit fullbacks?

And the dysfunctional merry go round in the halves was an embarrassment until Reynolds arrived. It looked like his coaching amounted to nothing much more than "get out there and play."

All I remember Kevie saying is that he'd seen so many 18 year olds thrown into the deep end and that he wanted Walsh to play half a dozen QCup games before giving him a crack. It seemed like a reasonable expectation, especially since Walsh had hardly played any football since he injured his shoulder.

Then before Walsh had even played a game of QCup, he'd already signed with the Warriors.

There is no pleasing people like you. Did you honestly expect Cartwright to say nah **** off to a first grade gig in the super league to continue to be an assistant coach in the NRL?
Extending Paix was your golden boy Ikins work not Kevs. And having to extend Reynolds who is still playing good football is just good business not a fuckup. Lets check in with how souths did not re signing Reynolds for their "succession" plan

And what is not being mentioned here is that the staff prior to Kevvie even arriving had allowed Walsh to be in the last year of his contract at all.

He was a gold star talent coming through the juniors yet Seibold, Nolan and co weren't able to extend him, which left it open to warriors swooping in... no way Walsh gets released if his contract was extended out to at least 2022 like any component club wouldve done years earlier.

Fox reckon that the dogs have a “budget” of 550k for Hunt. Surely we get him

You’d have to think if it’s 550k. Guess his wife and kids will be a big factor though for only a couple seasons more so than ambition. I don’t think the Dogs as a culture overly fits him tbh, I expect him to end up at the Bronx. That comment at the start pretty much meant it was only going to go one way.

Just read that, if the NRL allow him to sign for 550k surely, we are morals to grab him
The fact someone has chucked 1.3 out supposedly to me suggests it will be hard to sign him for 550 but I guess if it’s between 2 clubs offering in the 500’s it’s more likely. The fact it will be nearly December by the time the decision is made it’s unrealistic to expect a team he wants to go to have just under a million bucks for him.

Trying so hard not to get my hopes up, but would love to have Dozer back. I'm sure he'd love to come back too... with the kids we have these days... can you imagine injecting him into the mix. He's a threat no matter where he plays and takes even more pressure off ARey and Walsh.

If we get him, I'm dropping $200 on us taking home the silverware in '25.

BHunt's manager might be looking for a new client if these offers are correct.

Walked away from $1m at dargs to offers around half that... even if he's playing for two years he's potentially only getting what he gave up.

You'd think he only walks away from dargs if his manager has something lined up OR a negotiated payout from dargs as part of leaving.

Yeah 100%. Fitness, Defence and Second row improvement is really the biggest obstacle after that. Fitness I think we are in a much better position to get on top of this year, Defence for mine is 99% fitness and attitude and Second row is a concern but get the defence right and the rest will come.

Would be interesting to see how him and Reyno would go as a pairing... they both want the ball.

Even adding Reece to that who also always wants the ball.

Someone would need to take a backseat and in that instance I'd probably have Bhunt taking a back seat to Reynolds on terms of the general kicking, but being the one to work with Walsh on unlocking his attack.

If Bhunt does come he will need to be aware of what his role is within the squad and knowing he's not going to be the go to guy.

Ultimately we would want him playing some hooker but it seems likely Ezra is copping an extreme suspension, so he'll be playing some halves with Reynolds if he comes

I think it just lines up perfectly to be honest. Play the first half of the season in the halves and then some origin and then finish the season at hooker with Mozer and into Halfback next year. Gets the crack at the premiership this year without wrecking his body playing a full year at hooker and then into his preferred position next year when Reyno is gone.

Thats very simple. You always give the ball to Reynolds. He knows where it needs to go and whose hands it needs to be in.

4 teams have shown interest in him out of 16 he could have possibly joined, 3 offers that are known are all in the 500k vicinity. If what everyone is willing to pay you isn’t your market value then what is?
