Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

They got a Broken down has-been who spends most of the season injured for 300k less than he could have gotten elsewhere.

we got a rising up-and-comer, who is already one of the best fullbacks in the game (and has only just scratched the surface of his potential) for 300k less than he would have gotten elsewhere.

we win, so relax

A broken down hasbeen...who is 26 and just played fullback in a grand final? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiightio then.

Yeah because he's only in the team because of his Dad right?

His dad is the reason right? I'm not sure on this one, I don't think you've mentioned it before.

Looking for some clarification on this new take of yours.

Or is it because of "McGuire", I didn't even know Josh was the head coach, until you chimed in.
Okay, Narelle.

Was told by someone today who normally has decent info that the broncos board are confident they can get hunt for next year and year after.

I personally cant see how we fit him under the cap. but any one else with better contacts hearing anything similar?

my gut still tells me he ends up at either roosters or "THE"
All signs point to the Bulldogs.

Billy Walters is that shit of a player he couldn't even make it into the Tigers aka wooden spooners team. The only reason he's seen time in the Brisbane Broncos team is because of his father. Kevin himself was an absolute terrible coach and it was only his name and previous playing experience that seen him get into the head coaching postition.
Hard to argue with any of that.

We all hate the Storm ...

But we can't complain about the Storm getting one of their players cheaper, while happily accepting that we also got one of our guns significantly cheaper that what he would have got had he left us ... That would make us hypocrites. You're not a hypocrite are you?

Let's not forget that Paps was pretty much developed by Bellamy and the Storm ... Yes, he was signed from another club, but was like 4th choice fullback at that club and wasn't wanted by anyone else. Bellamy took a gamble on him. I'd be pissed if one of our players opted for money over loyalty in similar circumstances.

Besides, who gives a flying **** if the media or opposition fans treat us and the Storm differently, it's how the NRL treat the deals that matters.

And think about it, do we really want to turn the game something where a player can't opt to stay at his current club for less than a rival is offering. That would not turn out well for us or the game.

You're dying on the wrong hill mate

I'm not dying on any hill, I'm simply saying if they can do it, there can't be any complaints from the media or anywhere really if we do it too.

And for reference, the most like for like offer he received was what happened with Ben Hunt leaving us. We couldn't match it due to salary cap...Paps has decided to take LESS and for a shorter time. Hunt had likely years left in the game, Paps could be retired any time with another serious injury. To knock this back is a 'coup' for the Storm.

Regardless, I'm happy, we should seek to keep whomever we can on reduced wages now, the precedent here is set. Great for rich clubs like us.

Latest article I have seen, no mention of Roosters just Broncos and Dogs

Apparently roosters can only offer around the 500k mark and Brent read and Peter Badel now speculating we are now in the box seat to sign him. All this reporting is complete bullshit in my book. No clubs have formally offered any deal yet tho…

I wouldn't say he's a broken down has been but he's most definitely lost a yard or two of pace after his knee injury which is basically what his game is based around, I wouldn't say he has the ballplaying skills of other elite fullbacks in the game.

**** the club did well to rebound from a wooden spoon to get to the grand final last year carrying Kev & Billy for all those years. If anything, the club should win the next 4 years a row without all that dead weight now according to you.

Thats untrue. We at BHQ have formally offered Hunt a chicken sandwich to sign with us.

Don't tell him that he did make that Tigers team, let's keep it a secret.

Look at the current players that Walters lost Brisbane Broncos since signing on. 2 major of them in my opinion is Tommy Dearden and Herbie Farnworth. That's terrific support from Walters, we're had players come forward and state Reynolds has been the coach of the club.

Cleary has lost Crichton, Kikau, Burton, Luai, Koroisau, Leniu, Fisher-Harris.

Point being, you can't keep them all.

Letting Walsh go, and then being unable to coach Dearden were early red flags. Hard to say to what extent Farnworth was a fuckup or whether his positional aspirations and market value led to him leaving. Releasing Capewell early while not having a replacement ready was braindead. Having to extend Reynold because he hadn't groomed a first class successor was a fuckup. As was extending Rogers, Paix, etc. The cards stacked up against Kevvie in the end. Losing all his assistants wasn't a good sign either.
