Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

I think it's the opposite that's what worries me. Piakura and Howarth were the best two backrowers in their cohort in 2019. If Penrith was chasing them that would make sense in 2019.

Armstrong isn't Piakura or Howarth, he didn't make any Queensland side until U19 last year not a single rep side. There is something about him that I like- he's just a hard working solid kid.

He's playing Meninga Colts in 23, played one Cup game and one game for Qld and he's 19 nearly 20 in a couple of weeks. Yet the premiers want him.

So my question is why do the four-time premiers see and want? Jim Jones is very very good at what he does- This is the same guy that went to Gloria Jeans every week to watch a 17-year-old five-eighth Dylan Edwards to see if he wanted him. He doesn't miss a trick.
It is what made Cyril so good. He didn't just go look for the big and fast kid who just ran over smaller players. He got an idea about character and work ethic by speaking to parents, teachers etc.

Your example of edwards is perfect. He is not the biggest or fastest fullback, not the greatest ball skills and had some shockers with his hands early in his career, but he had the character and determination to work harder than everyone else. Same with to'o. He gives up size to just about every winger, but works harder and runs harder than the others.

Give me hard worker with footy IQ and plays his role for team success over an individual player that cruised through younger grades by just being bigger and faster any day.

Well explain him volunteering to sit out of games after origins every time he is given the opportunity. Or openly going to the coaches and saying don't pick me this week I'm tired. He has a long history of taking the easy way out when the times are tough

I can remember one origin when he got KTFO and had time off to recover ?
Should he have just hardened up and ignored the doctors ?

I dont think anyone is saying he should, thats a tad over dramatic from you there with that situation just to try to prove a point.

What he should do though if he wants to make the most of his career and talent is work harder. He can do things you cant teach with his ability, but there are also things that can be taught he hasnt done. I keep saying it, but he's played enough first grade football and been around the NRL long enough to know what it takes.

He has failed to back up multiple times over his career already from origin despite playing on the wing. How many wingers often fail to back up from origin for their clubs. The answer is basically zero unless carrying an injury which he never has been at the time. I'm glad you can remember when he got knocked out in origin but perplexed you cant remember him not backing up any other time. Case in point was actually last year after game 3 when we were struggling and he said nah cant back up Kev pick someone else. Everyone else backed up because it was basically a must win game for the club including Carrigan and Haas who played big minutes in the origin game.
