It's not shocking or surprising- Katao signed with Dolphins, they let him play SG Ball and Panthers said wish you well, but we aren't putting effort into you for you to move to Redcliffe in six months. Why would Penrith keep letting you pick Cleary's brain?

He played out the year until he moved in November with his local club side Glenmore Park.

When Armstrong said he was going to Penrith the Broncos didn't keep letting him play for them and train, Trew isn't still at the Broncos training. What was going to happen to Oloapu post signing with the Dogs?

You have to factor that into your decision, if I can't move now because I have school like Katao did, then I might have a boring 6 months.

I understand that clubs aren't going to put effort into you anymore. The club signing you needs to consider that and consider what can be done- I am sure the Dolphins are happy with how it's panned out.

I’m not sure how it works but I assume he’s talking about the fact that SG teams are all affiliated with NRL clubs, so if the club bars you, you have no option to play. In QLD, Q Cup has a number of teams unaligned or a mix of NRL contracted / local club so if you aren’t ready to move, you can still play if you want.

Regardless, I don’t think Dave would be pushing it if it wasn’t an issue.

@1910 what has happened to oloapu ?.

So if Cobbo is out the door, which seems likely. The next one that has a massive question mark is Mariner, what is his future at the Broncs? It seems pretty apparent now he is a right centre or bust and given we are apparently about to re-sign Staggs and Gibasaki proving every single person wrong, where does he fit moving forward?

Growing rumblings that Difita is heading for the exit too...would he be one of the exciting signings Donuts has been talking about?

If we lose Cobbo + like 13 other blokes who are off contract plus say Mariner, we would have a bit of money to play with you would think.

Riki should be shopped around. If we can get some former Broncos to strengthen the edge, either Su'a or discounted Fifita work for me.

It sounds like Mariner has a good attitude about things and he's also still young and inexperienced.

I think the draw of Madge to the club is the opportunity to get these young guys that look to have a lot of potential and a lot athleticism, but no ****ing brains when it comes to footy... and thinking that if he can teach them how to play modern football then he would be able to create a freakish football team.

The first part of that is having the right attitude.

Mariner and Piaks seem like two guys that have been showing the right attitude, which should be favourable to Madge... and I've said before that I'm never going to criticise wingers in defence when they have to defend outside guys like Staggs sprinting 30m infield to leave them 3v1 or Mam needing extra help whenever he's targetted.

The winger is required to react to decisions made on the inside... if the inside isn't communicating then they will get left on an island trying to shut down something that all the inside defenders caused.

I'd offer the Titans Mariner for 26 and 27 in exchange for Fifita for 26 then we offer a new contract in 27.
Wouldn't happen though.
I feel like Madge and being back at the broncos could unlock something in Dave.

So do I and if it doesn't, well he isn't signed long term so nothing really lost.

Sexton is a proven plodder. Don't see Savala leaving Roosters on more than a loan deal, and Duffy looked far from NRL quality in his small sample size.
A Proven plodder that is currently steering a top 2 team around the field. The bulldogs were directionless before getting him from the titans last year.

We have to be realistic. Whilst we are splashing cash on hass, carrigan, walsh, mam etc, we have to temper costs elsewhere.

At halfback, we only need someone who can kick, direct the team around the park and straighten the attack to give mam and walsh space on the outside. Duffy, Sexton or clifford could do that.

please stop talking about Fifita ... he is the exact type of player we need to (and likely will) clear out of this club.

even if he offered to play for free, i'd still have second thoughts about us signing him

I think the old adage that you need an elite halfback to win a comp is slowly fading as the game speeds up and more positions are expected to share ballplaying responsibilities.

Long kicking game and ability to tackle are a non-negotiable, and bit of athleticism is a nice to have. But you don't necessarily need elite ballplaying skills (nor is there enough talent in the competition that has all these traits). You mainly want your first receiver to play straight or pass early. Especially for us where Mam and Walsh generate most of the attack.

If you look at the halfback market, sure the absolute elites are worth the money - Cleary, Moses, Hughes. But are the ~4th to ~8th best halfbacks really worth their pay? There's value in the lesser regarded halves who accept their role and don't overplay their hand.

I think Dogs are missing this point with Sexton. He does a fine job of giving early ball at first receiver and long-kicking. And that works for their attack - Dogs mainly attack through Kikau and their centres anyway. I've noticed recently that the Dogs have been making Sexton run more and play more a dominant half role, but that clearly doesn't suit his skills. And now they've signed an inexperienced five-eighth who's a ballhog and isn't known for long-kicking.

If we go with Hunt at 7 next year, can he swallow his ego and let Mam and Walsh have the quality ball, or would he play like final-year Thurston?

I personally think Coby black is the answer after Reynolds plays on for one more year. He can play and play well. One more year in qcup the kid is intelligent sees the game well. Talks extremely well.

I'd need to hear more about the situation but I understand he's been cleared to play but apparently doesn't want to. Even not knowing the situation, that's a concerning attitude for mine.

Thinks his ankle needs more time after surgery the club thinks its good to go iirc

Yeah I have no idea what the truth is but it is coming across as doctors saying he isn’t ready and club not believing it.

He looks like he’s trying to get a release. And while I’d be very keen to get him back, I completely get others saying an emphatic no.

While I want him, it is only if he comes cheap and on a short contract.

Yeah look, if that's the case then fair enough. Des's career is cooked regardless but I can see him pushing for Dave to play before he's ready to come back properly.

The Titans doctor and physio think it's fixed, Dave doesn't believe so.
